I'd definitely wait for this group buy. Ian's stuff is very well thought out, designed, and built for function AND form. You'd probably regret getting anything else, or missing out on this one-time opportunity.

Thanks for the update. I am hoping this option would somehow fit in the Yamaha top case? Stealth is always nice. This would allow me to make it to Las Vegas (Lost Wages) without stopping for gas. Now that would be nice! I am guessing the top case would need to come off and the tank would be mounted to the rack? It should be very interesting I will wait before I buy but my last question is would it be legal in CA. I never really looked into that but you never know with CA law... If so, this would be to good to be true.

I would not recommend mounting a fuel cell inside your top case for fear of a vapor lock. The cell I'm working on will mount in place of the passenger seat area. As with any fuel cell, lets just say that this is a prototype only, and not recommended for on-highway use.

The bike goes in the middle of next week to have the custom cell cover sewn. As soon as I get it back I will be posting lots of photo's. There are quite few interesting features planned for the cover and I hope you guys like them.

Then I'll be quickly trading bikes with TurboDave so I can dial in the AE model and get it ready for his B2B insanity ride.

Just a heads up to let you guys know that the fuel cell project has taken a huge leap forward. I am almost complete with everything for my '04. In addition there are also going to be quite a few options for the fuel cell cover in regards to what your own needs may be, including an optional detachable riders backrest for those times when you just want to lean back and stretch for some relief. I've tried it and it contours to my lower back perfectly.

The prototype cell cover alone is very high quality and I can't wait to see the production version.

Definitely interested in this farkle, but I gotta ask a fairly basic question (apologies to all if already asked and answered): Do we need to drill/mount a fitting onto the main tank, or put another way, how does your plumbing get the fuel cell gas to the engine? Second question for those who have ridden with similar rigs: How badly does a filled fuel cell affect an FJR's handling in the twisties - I like both the "Sport" and "Tour" of my FJR - Don't want to screw with one while improving the other!

YES you have to drill the tank for bulkhead fitting.

I dont think it effects the bike handleing much it is a total of maybe 50 lbs sitting where a passenger would be.

04 fender (stock)

05 fender (fair in the extender, then paint)

04 side cases hole plugs.

Would like to see Ian's cell before I pull the 05 down for farkling.
