TriggerT
Mr. Impatient
I have started to add up how much this little jaunt is going to cost, and it might be a harder sell to the wife than I first thought. We'll see.
Sell her? I thought it was her idea. Just do the ride you need to do, and if you are compelled to add up the costs, do it afterward.I have started to add up how much this little jaunt is going to cost, and it might be a harder sell to the wife than I first thought. We'll see.
F*ck you. I have 3 extra quarts on hand nowThat is a possibility as long as you promise not to try and change your oil the morning we are supposed to be meeting up. (Inside joke)You have me thinking I should tag along... meet up around topeka and I'll veer off your crazy path at SLC and head home. I just want to ride in NM and AZ...the only two states west of NE that I haven't ridden yet.
Ah, yes. Welcome to the money pit world of LD Riding. It's extremely easy to burn a boat load of money in this hobby. $500 for a custom seat, $600 for PHIDs, (they were cutting edge at the time), a grand for a Tanji, $700 for a Zumo, more for the XM puck, ongoing subscriptions for XM radio and SPOT, countless dollars for hotel beds you sleep in for 3 hours, rally entry fees...the list goes on and on.It was her idea for me to take a trip. It wasn't her idea for me to buy a fuel cell which I think would be a good idea for the trip, a SPOT, and about a dozen other things that I may not absolutely need, but I think would be a very good idea for the ride.
Also Tim, be sure to point out how much your saving!BIODSL / Paul
Believe it or not, your post actually helped my cause a little bit. I have all but two of the things you listed, so I was able to explain to my wife that I have already bought almost everything I need. It is just one or two more things. Sounds logical, right?
If it works, we'll take it!BIODSL / Paul

Um....dude.....that is almost the same amount I would have to spend, unless you know something I don't.Also Tim, be sure to point out how much your saving!BIODSL / Paul

"See honey, this crazy nut spent a thousand dollars on his fuel cell."
The above advice should be considered marital counseling and does not reflect my personal opinions about the cost of any particular auxiliary tank.

Easy Tim. I'm pretty sure even Dean didn't include the bulkhead fittings for the main tank.Holy crap, with the kind of math I think you should be helping with the health-care budget. I thought there were some items that I would still have to buy after the $869 from you? Like the bulkhead fitting. Did I misunderstand?
Dude - she will enjoy her time AWAY from you as much as you do the ride. Trust me, I know where from I speak, 2x divorced. It was her idea for me to take a trip. It wasn't her idea for me to buy a fuel cell which I think would be a good idea for the trip, a SPOT, and about a dozen other things that I may not absolutely need, but I think would be a very good idea for the ride.
Oh, and don't forget the Candy Butt Association fees too!Ah, yes. Welcome to the money pit world of LD Riding. You might consider getting out now while you have the chance. Once the hook is set, the addiction is hard to kick. Run while there is still time...
OhCricketOfNonStraightNature... are you sure of what you're getting yourself into? :blink:Ok, so my ride to Portland, OR and back was $498 in fuel. The mileage was 4478. My average MPG was 41.74. The most I paid for fuel was $3/gal. The cheapest was $2.32/gal. Any way you slice it, I think it's safe to say you'll spend $600 in fuel. (at $3/gal, that's $18-ish) If you get 210 miles to a tank....someone else do the math... Joel?
I'd be sure you only bought a candy bar in Mexico just for the receipt. I'd toss the candy bar too
I know you called me to see if I was bluffing. I'm not. I'll go on part of this trip with you. After you called my gusto increased a few thousand percent and I thought "screw it, why not ride from border to border and actually USE the passport?" The thought is still there. I still need new tires.
You would have purchased that Russell (or Corbin, or Meyer, whichever you have) regardless. After the first NAFO/SFO/CFO/WFO/EOM/SW-FOG ride you would have seen one, sat on it and immediately made plans to buy one. The GPS, well, I'm cheap and my old 2610 works just fine. In a pinch I could use my mobile phone (signing up for VZW's service just for good measure).
I'd probably have to add aux lights for this trip...and get that new-to-me-with-fewer-miles stock rear shock put on...
screw you and your great ideas TriggerT

The hook is set, just reel him in.After you called my gusto increased a few thousand percent and I thought "screw it, why not ride from border to border and actually USE the passport?" The thought is still there. I still need new tires.
Can't wait for the ride report on this one :good:screw you and your great ideas TriggerT
There are no guarantees. The route goes through Las Vegas. I'm single. I might not follow him north. The hook is set, just reel him in.
Can't wait for the ride report on this one :good:
