There's not a liter class metric bike made now that doesn't have more than adequate power for it's intended purpose on public roads and highways. Moreover, with the new generation of computer controls that offer mulit-mode fuel maps for varied conditions, I counter that they all offer adequate "snap" where appropriate. If you are into more power, then I would suggest a track or drag bike and a trailer. Otherwise, up your insurance policy - no point in leaving your loved ones to struggle.

I got out of that "squid" stage before I bought the litre bike. DGMW - I enjoy a little rip every now and then under certain conditions, but once you go down and feel first hand how hard that pavement is, your outlook on the whole experience changes tremendously.

Good luck with your search.

So says the fastest and best rider I ever followed tried to follow!

Truly, I agree. My memory of helplessness while sliding, knowing that I was not only totally destroying my Dad's beloved motorcycle I might be about to die, the worst fear that the lovely young woman who had been my passenger might be killed... No, hitting the pavement is not fun.

If you want to believe as I do that the FJR is lightening fast, only two things are required: 1. Go to the FJR from a Harley Sportster, and 2. Ride it in rush-hour traffic in which you are faster than any cage that did not cost over a hundred grand. And when I'm going 80 and roll on the throttle, I get pushed back in the seat. The FJR gives you all the "Oh sh*t!" moments a fellah could ever need. What more does a mortal being need?

Power "snap" is all relative. If your comparing it to a Busa, the FJR is a lard ass. If your coming from any type of cruiser, the FJR is beast.

I have noticed lots of ST riders like to shift between 3000-4000 rpm even though the shifting redzone is between 9000-11,000 rpm on the FJR. If you want more performance rev it out and shift gears of at least 7500+ rpm and downshift a gear to pass. Its really a completely different bike if you ride it this way.

From what I've heard & read the sport mode & fly by wire throttle of the Gen III bikes is amazing. And as has been mentioned the FJR is much easier to work on & has a better longevity record. I don't think the C14 is gonna give you what your wanting. You may just need to get a VFR or some other more sport than touring bike & slap some saddlebags on it.

Or just get a Gen I

I came from a 2000 VFR. The FJR is faster and has better brakes. I don't know about the newer VFR; presumably it is faster. But not enough snap? i would agree with the others, shift at higher rpms or shift down sooner. How fast or slow the FJR goes is all in the wrist action.

I must be getting old because I contemplate selling the FJR because it has too much power. I am going to get caught speeding and lose my license and that would not be good.

I also ride a BMW airhead. If you want snap, ride something else and then jump back on the FJR. The airhead, although faster than most cars on the road, is like flying a byplane versus the space shuttle that is the FJR.

Wow...Honda claims 172hp at the crank on the VFR! And it's a little lighter than the FJR.

If the FJR is indeed faster...Honda doesn't know WTF their doing. lol

To me the FJR is the Perfect blend of all things. Has plenty of power for me yet its very forgiving to ride.

The 2000 VFR is not the 172hp at the crank model.

The 2010 and up VFR1200 is what has the 172 claimed horses, and yes IMHO Honda did a good job.LOL. BTW the 1200VFR will loose an FJR with riders of the same riding skill...

Right that's the model I was referring to. 2000 VFR is ancient history.

I had a 2011Gen II and the ONLY thing that i was sort of disapointed was the Power & Acceleration of the bike, i am now considering getting back and wonder if the 2013's/2014's are different in that regard.......Some friends keep telling me about the Kawasaki Concours 1400 but i am still drawn by the FJR......just curious what your thougts are ???
Thanks for the feedback !
It sounds to me like you need to throw some bags over a Busa.

If you are not satisfied with the performance of the FJR as a sport touring machine you may be looking at the wrong category of motorcycle.

I have yet to see one motorcycle that satisfies everyone's needs, and I am not exactly new at this.

Good luck with your search.

If you need more snap or acceleration than the FJR provides maybe you need to go get a track bike and ride track. I seem to keep up with all my riding buddies on R1's, Panigales, S1000RRs, GSXRs, MVs in the twisties. However I did swap bikes with my buddy last Summer. I can without a doubt inform you that a Ducati 1198 has more acceleration than our FJRs. How long can you ride on a brick oven? He was impressed with the FJRs power and comfort. He deemed it "The Flying Couch".

I ride my gen III every week with a friend that rides a BMW K1600. We have raced numerous times. The 2 bikes run very close. It really depends are who gets the jump. Sometimes the FJR wins and sometimes the BMW. The strong suit of the BMW is low end torque but it is a heavy bike. I had a Gen I and loved it. I love the Gen III even better. The strong suit for the Gen III is racing from a 4500 rpm punch. Bike pulls hard from the rpm. Its no sport bike but it isnt slow either.
