Pre departure jitters have subsided. I have now changed my oil and filter so I am fully committed. I am ready. I have my passport and have whited out my old Cuba visas so as not to raise any eyebrows at the border. ETD is Sat oh dark thirty (probably not, since the sun rises here at 5:15 am. I'm anxious but not that anxious! ) The weatherman has changed the Sat forecast every hour on the hour from rain to sun to rain so screw him. I have Canadian and American dollars. My GPS is programmed to get me to my first "CFR" stop in Sudbury at Steves. House chores are completed; bills are paid; my credit card company knows that I'll be spending $20 every few hours across north america and does not need to phone continually my wife to tell her that someone is ripping off our account. All is in readyness. I am at peace!
Bon voyage! I still have to contact VISA and pay bills. Right now, I'm trying to get newest version of MapSource into new netbook .... and the netbook is not detecting the zumo at ANY of the 3 usb ports

Leaving here Friday am ....

Hells ya! My jitters took a big leap today when I realized I pull out next Sat. Gonna do my oil/coolant change in the next day or two (don't tell anybody, but I'm running 0W-40 at the moment). Screw that ******* weatherman, they're always wrong anyway. Come what may. Otherwise except for the obligatory calls to the CC's and getting some more 'mericun $$. I'm ready to roll.

I'm here all day Sat. You've got my number, give me a shout and I'll come and get ya and route you around 'town'. The city tore the **** out of the Kingsway getting ready for resurfacing. When you come into Sudbury, the first major intersection you come to will be Falconbridge Rd. Theirs a huge Ford dealer on the corner, you can't miss it. Hang a right at that intersection. Theirs a Don Cherry's on the corner on immediate right. Pull in there and give me a call. I'll be there in 10 minutes tops.

Ride safe bud.

My new netbook squawked at me until I manually installed the 'Communicator Plug-in' from Garmin. Wouldn't do it itself.

Moosehead? You'll have to talk to this fellow. He resides in my front yard . . .

i am in a hot tube in Minn and not leaving. My 800kms today were cold, windy, wet and did I say COLD. I have the big mother rifle screen, heated vest , heated grips, sweater, heavy riding jacket on with my froggtogg over them as windbreak with my heavy gloves with liners. That my normal March/December riding gear NOT BLOODY JUNE! and to think i nearly left my heated vest at home to make room for my mesh jacket!! and the forecast west is not heartening!

i am not impressed with the CFR weather arrangement for ontario (and east) riders; i think all the damn cali guys are hogging the good stuff :angry2:

Those buncha poosies!

Looks like you've got more coming too Pierre, the satellite views show weather all over the mid-west. North and South Dakota appear to both be getting pretty significant rain. West of the Dakota's doesn't look to bad though. I saw on the weather channel they had snow warnings up in Alberta. I'm almost eskered' to look at the long range.

I know it was sprinkling and cold here today when I rode out with Chris 'n Diana. Turned into a nice day late in the afternoon though.

a g/f of mine in Calgary said it snowed there yesterday...

in SD near Badlands. 892km today in rain and wind; not as cold but at 3pm the sun burst through and clouds disspated into a glorious ride. Had an impromptu GPS excursion into downtown Minneapolis with massive construction of ring roads; GPS went mad recalculating in off terrain mode when it could not located the new roads.

Tomorrow is badlands, Black Hills, Custer, Sturgis etc so will smell the roses for a day or so. The fun part of the trip starts now! (Yeah NOAA says rain for all these areas tomorrow; smell roses indeed)

This update is brought to you by the world famous "Corn Palace"

Whats going on, seems like everybody is having GPS problems. It's been raining here pretty steady since last night, the whole eastern half of the continent right along the border has rain right now. Looks like you'll have decent weather so long as you stay somewhat south.

As for the trip 'start', I'm thinking I'll feel that way once we roll into Cody. Black Hills will be a nice diversion on day two.

Ride safe!

In Sheriden WY after 640km mostly the wet. It stopped long enough to let me have a nice ride through the Badlands but once I finished the loop it started again.

One doozer of a rain about 3pm; black storm clouds appear in the west followed by a deluge which forced me off the interstate "for lunch" 30 min later its sunny and stayed that way until I packed it in for the day. I thought I'd head over the Big Horn towards Cody but all the dark clouds were parked over them. I'll try tomorrow and do Bear Tooth maybe.

Oh1 I checked out Wall Drugs! its amazing what advertising does. The town was jammed with people in cages and bikes. Its a veribable Disneyland.

Lessons learned today Do not put your extra breakfast bananna in your tankbag for later eating.

Still I love this part of the country wet or dry! Bring it on baby! :assassin:

Pierre

Bee prepared to maybe change plans on the Beartooth pass ride.

The Montana side was closed today!

If you take Cheif Joseph highway you get to Cook City but then there was talk of SNOW in Cooke City.

I was also told with that you can see the buffalo better!

I passed on that and modified my route

Maybe next year

Thanks for posting up your trip log and pictures Pierre...I'm following along and anticipating the departure/arrival of all you Easterners.

..loved the banana comment - it's something we only do once.

Safe trip and sunny days ahead!

Kasey
