Pierre
Bee prepared to maybe change plans on the Beartooth pass ride.

The Montana side was closed today!

If you take Cheif Joseph highway you get to Cook City but then there was talk of SNOW in Cooke City.

I was also told with that you can see the buffalo better!

I passed on that and modified my route

Maybe next year
Hope it's open on Sunday...that's when griff and I plan to go through. Staying overnight in Cooke City.

Weather is a changing but you should make another set of plans just in case.... We talked to a guy from West Virginia that told us about an interesting ride he had monday.... from Yellowstone to Cooke City....

Day 5 Because Beartooth Pass is closed due to recent slide closure

and with heavy rain on starting, I rule the Big Horn stretch out and Cody (having done it several time before); decide to slab it in the rain. So of course after I pass the cut off point the rain stops and the sun comes out. Actually turns into an outstanding day. I slab it to the Butt area on I90 and I don't care what you say there is no prettier ride than the Bozeman-Butte stretch. It should be the "welcome to america" video for new arrivals - outstanding vistas. These shots don't even come close to the awe you experience climbing and decending that stretch.

I decide to take Chief Joseph Pass over the mountains via Wisdom and toodle down 93 to Hamilton. My mountain riding is rusty; scares the hell out of me. Something about the drop ... need to work on that! I managed to cross the continental divide 3 times in a few hours , on I90, at Chief Joseph Pass and on a goat trail between hy 1 and 43.

Got a late start but still did 840km.

Aw crap. Looks like we'll be doing the northnern part of Yellowstone as an alternate route then. First GTTS in GNP is closed, now Beartooth. I guess I'm going to have go back out there again.
Same here. :(

Staying in Cooke City overnight on Sunday night.

Once again, your a day ahead of us, well, we had planned Cody, but that day is a short run, we might end up in Cooke City.

I guess I'm going to HAVE TO ride to Hyder just to keep up on my 'places I have to go' list. I've got my fingers crossed that GTTS is re-opened in time for the return trip.

The date of that news article is June 1st. I can tell as of two days ago it was still closed and after talking to a guy from West Virginia yesterday he said it was land/mud slides that closed the road. Now the section that is closed is from Red Lodge to Cooke City... The Montana side . You still can take Cheif Joesph highway to get to Cooke City and then into the park.

The guy from West Virginia came into Cooke City from yellostone and had to back track through the park to get out. On Monday there was 3inches of snow on the road.

Edit: To be 100% sure I believe you can phone an 1-800 number.....

I just know what I saw and heard Tuesday and heard from the West Virginia guy .

I'll say it again - per the Montana and Wyoming DOT sites as of this morning, Beartooth is NOT closed. It was closed a couple of days ago because of snow. That article was date Wednesday, June 1 which is not this year. Maybe last year. And it was closed one year for significant mud slides for quite a while.

I sure do hope that is a fun ride for ya!

I hope all of you get to ride this road.

I've been keeping an eye on your Spot Tracker.. I broke down after reading about John Ryans UCC ride and keeping tabs on the both of you, and Chris & Diana.

I'll post up my link late tomorrow. See ya soon!

like Tom I shed all my winter stuff and went mesh jacket. I was just wapped after riding for a few hours, what with the heat and concentration in the mountains. Followed the 12 all the way to Pasco; thats another great scenic ride with all those giant hills seemingly covered in green felt. bedded down in Yakima after 774km and am ready for Mt St Helens (bucket list # 302) tomorrow and will work my way up to Rainier the day after that.

I dont know how you guys who just left are going to make it in time; i;m going flat out and might be late.

Did anone manage to do Beartooth afterall?

See you all there....we should be doing the Lolo fun Wednesday AM. Looking forward to that, as well as all the rest.
