If getting a valid alert well in advance and slowing down isn't enough, buy a V1 so you know in which direction to look for the threat(s) while you slow down. The 'arrow people' will be along to say that a detector without arrows is useless :p
the reason for the arrows is so that you don't have to slow down for every ping. if you get a ping and the arrow provides the additional info needed, you then can decide if it's worth slowing down or not. an unidentified ping means you slow down for them all because that one extra bit of info is missing.

Concur.

I hear a ping in my ER-6 I don't automatically jam on the binders unless it's the middle of nowhere.

If the arrow shows side or behind...especially if it's not Ka...I keep going and glance at the arrows while listening for change in signal intensity.

Having both a Cobra (car and purchased prior to my FJR) and a V1 (FJR)...the V1 is FAR superior because of the arrows.

And, the audio tone through earbuds is superior to a blinking LED because of the immediate additional information of what band is being spewed.

More "Less filling" vs "Tastes Great". The 8500 & 9500 generally falses less than the V1 in ka band and a whole lot less in the X band, so threats are taken more seriously.

That would get you a ticket PDQ in New England! As mentioned in a previous post, where you are in the country may make a difference in which detector would work best.
