I was just prepping for a trip I'm about to leave on in the morning and I'm sure I'll be seeing some rain. I was about to apply some RainX on my windshield and helmet face shield and read on the bottle not to apply on plastic unless the manufacture said it was ok. I have a CeeBaily windshield and a Shoe GT-Air helmet. Has anyone put RainX on these products and had problems?

Thanks,

Richard

I've used RainX on visors before. No problems, it just doesn't last long (it's a molecular thing - designed for glass). But it does work.

Rainex is not for Plastic. It has deleterious effects on the hard coat on most polycarbonate windshields and will leech the dye out of some non-coated acrylic windshields. I learned this while working for Memphis Shades and installing windshields at the Sturgis Rally.

From what I have read, that is correct - RainX is made for glass and could have long-term ill effects on moto windshields and visors.

For years now, I have been using some goop called Raincoat from an outfit called MotoSolutions <clicky>. You can buy it direct and there are some retailers out there that carry it.

The goop works great.

Memphis Shades sells a product called All Kleer which is manufactured by Black Lab Corp.

It is a antifog/anti static/ anti bug stick and cleaner which is non abrasive and safe for all plastics, coated and uncoated. They have little kits with a bottle of cleaner and two small microfiber towels in them.

I use AllKleer on my bike and my glasses as well as my helmet visors.

I've also been using Raincoat for a few years with good results. Makes it easier to wipe off bug splatter too.

thanks for all the info. Unfortunately I don't have time to order something. I've never though of using Pledge. I figured it would be streaky...

Use Turtle Wax or something like it. Just no compound type stuff or Zymol that has small abrasives in it. It all does the same thing: It fills in the small pits and imperfections so water can't stick to them and beads off.

Easy!

Harley buddies used Rain-X and after a while the windshields yellowed. I've used Eagle 1 Wipe & Shine for years on windshield and visors with a microfiber towel takes off bugs and grime no problems leaves a nice shine.

Harley OEM windshields are polycarbonate wit a hard coating applied. Rained is specially hard on the hard coat. They all will yellow and flake over time and after sufficient UV exposure, RAINEX seems to accelerate the coating distress.

I have been using Pledge for years. I keep a spray can and clean rag in my top box. It cleans well enough and does not streak, and it smells lemony fresh.

I don't think it helps protect the plastic from subsequent bug splatter or other dirt.
