My 2 cents:

A bead rider is an effective tool for long distance types that will help delay the onset of real Monkey Butt, the cause of which is your ass being damp all day in the saddle. Bicycle shorts (which I sometimes use) may actually exacerbate the onset of Monkey butt as they trap moisture and can harbor bacteria

in the chamois (whether real or synthetic).

But people that have butt burn after 2 hours do not usually have Monkey Butt, just cut-off circulation from sitting on a seat that doesn't conform to their shape. Bicycle shorts may help with reducing the the pressure points that cause the circulation loss, but not very effectively since the chamois is shaped to help when sitting on a very narrow bicycle seat, where the pressure points are a lot closer in.

The solution is a custom shaped saddle that evenly distributes your weight around the full circumference of your butt. No pressure points, no pain. But, if you sit in the saddle for long days, multiple days at a time, you still may develop Monkey butt. That's where all the hygienic stuff comes in, or maybe even using a bead rider on top of the custom seat.

Now, back to the name calling and lawyers... ;)

1400 miles over 6 days=233 miles a day. The stock seat would be pretty comfy for 4 hours of riding, broken up over a full day for most people.
4 hours of riding? you've got to be kidding. This is barely 3. And don't even think of correcting me. I know no one rides less than 80. Heck, if the speedo wasn't there, we would all be at 100, the motor purrs the same at all speeds.

On the highway maybe. I'd like to see you average 80 on twisty backroads...

Well i just made up a beaded seat cover
Ok, I've read numerous posts about the 'custom' beaded seat cover made from the cheap Wal-Mart seat cover. Well, how do you do it exactly? I haven't found any pictures or instructions. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I tried this and it did NOT turn out well. Maybe I'm just not 'crafty' enough.

Oh, and I'll take the A over the AE. (No, I haven't tried it for over 1400 miles so my opinion doesn't really count.)

And Howie, fix your bike already and stop whining. :exhappysmiley:

First ol' RH was hoping someone would send him money or good parts. Next he was hoping someone would be sympathetic and send money or parts. Now he is hopping someone will send money or parts just to stop the whining and complaining  I think he has completely run Odot off the Forum. If you want to contribute to the RH Part Fund, the goal will be right around $1,800, depending on what has to be changed. (I tried all that and none of it worked for me either.)

While RH and Spook get their rocks off on each other let me comment on the article, it was a piece of shit. The cover promised a comparison between the two bikes. What we got was a ride report with maybe two paragraphs of comparison, and there was absolutely nothing in the comparo that you couldn't have figured out for yourself. Poorly done IMO.

What i did was put a piece of tape on the drivers seat where the pass seat meets. Then i brought the front pad inside the house & partially disasembled the beaded pad. (it had a 3 inch rim around it) . Once i layed the beaded pad on the seat , i marked off the beads i won`t need. I used the fishing line and snaked it along the border beads , then cut the line that went thru the outer beads & tied the ends & i`m done. Then you can either use fishing line to tie it onto the seat pad or elastic or just lay it on (your weight will hold it down) I`ll give it a try this sunday & see how i like it (if not it`s only a $7.00 dollar loss & some time).

But, Let's not kick an FJR rider in the nuts while he's down!!

That goes against everything this forum stands for.
OK, Now that's just funny as hell right there!!!

I AGREE!! :fan_1:

I had my doubts about the AE. I bought one just for something a bit different. I had an 07 A, so I already know how the standard model rides and feels. After getting used to the AE for slow speed maneuvers it is just enjoyable as an A model. The hand shifter option is also great for me since my left foot is currently numb about 75% of the time so I can't feel the shifter or peg. I have to look to make sure my foot is still there. It is a little strange still having N at the bottom of the shifting pattern. Sometimes I still try to put it in gear without pulling the brake, but that is a rider issue not a bike issue.

It hasn't ruined me for riding other bikes. I have yet to try to shift the Busa without using the clutch. B)

Outstanding Post TW!!

There are very few riders that went to an AE from an A. Your experience on the A gives you a unique point of view toward the AE. I'm sure that the A is an

AWESOME MACHINE. There is no doubt about that at all. But, an AWESOME MACHINE with a Trgger Shifter adds a new dimension to it that can't be adequately

explained if you can't relate to it. Enjoy!! :yahoo:

I agree completely. More info about visiting their family and what hotels they stayed in rather than any worthwhile info on the comparison. And when did the saddlebag liners become a $100 option? They're not still standard equipment?

Very disappointing.

I have two pair of the LD comfort undies. Worn them for thousands of miles. They help me a lot but are still not the total answer. I guess I'm the monkey butt king. I don't think there is any one thing that is the cure for me. If I get a Russel and and Airhawk on top of that with the LD's and some monkey butt powder, I might start getting some comfort. But, that's just me and my sweaty chapped ass talking. No way I'll ever make an Iron Butt rally.

Brings back memories of that old, old story of the "Princess and the Pea."
