Ok I'm in as a fer sure. Got a buddy who's good people also wanting to tag along. He's on a big Bandit but hopefully ya'll won't hold it against him. Lol. Like I said earlier we'll jump in at the Boiling Springs exchange! Looking forward to meeting any new folks and seeing old ones again.

rbentnail posted: The meetup with U. Hud is at the SC-9/ I-85 intersection, tentatively 10:30-ish, ON SUNDAY, JULY 10:
Raceway Convenience and Gas

1697 Boiling Springs Rd

Boiling Springs, SC 29316

This is going to be a "look around, have some coffee, leisurely long weekend off of work" type of ride.
Added the boldface above just so everybody's clear on when to meet. (Honestly, I posted it because I'll forget in a week or two.)

And I really enjoy those "look around, have some coffee, leisurely weekend off of work" rides!

Got ok from home boss, now to put in for weekend off from work boss lol.

Yes I know the raceway very well its not far from the house.

Will we be following hwy 9 from there on out?

And yes if work boss is cool with time ill stay overnight at beach and cut out next day around hamlet to return home Monday.

Coolio, bro-tatoes. (My nieces and nephews love it when I speak the kid's slang.)

Maybe Walter, but definitely ericboutin and me chillin' at the RaceWay, lookin' to get picked up by some bikers.

Hey this sounds like a pretty cool gig. I live in Wilmington North Carolina. Maybe I could meet up with you some somewhere along the way to Ashboro. I probably won't be able to stay the night in North Myrtle Beach but will head back home to Wilmington. sounds like a cool idea and a chance to meet some of ya.
I'm a little confused. Are you meaning meet up somewhere on Monday morning as we travel back to Asheboro? The order of the ride:

Start Sat, 7/9 at the bottom of the red line in Asheboro, NC and head north to meet Ken the HD Guy. Then west/sw on the purple line to Black Mtn, NC for [overnight]...

Sunday we ride the blue/yellow/cyan line! Hwy 9 all the way to the Atlantic Ocean in Cherry Grove, SC. [overnight in NMB]

Monday we head home on the green line.

If indeed you want to meet up Monday morning as we leave the beach, may I suggest meeting in Little River, SC? It's about an hr from Wilmington but as we leave we'll quickly be getting farther and farther away from your home.
Evidently I was the one who was confusicated! I guess I thought you were starting at Myrtle Beach. Since you're starting in Asheboro, then it would make sense for me to meet you in Asheboro and ride with y'all to Black Mountain, etc, and kind of break away on the way to Myrtle and head back to the house.

Hud,

That laughter you hear in the background is your nieces and nephews laughing with you.

Now you got it, I think. We're staying overnight in Blk Mtn. And I plan on leaving Asheboro around 9:30, that'll make a long, long day for you fer sher. You're good wid dat?

It might be better for you to hightail it up I-40 to the Sheetz station where we're meeting Ken the HD Guy. It'll save you an hr or so.

Kewl! Yes, we're leaving Blk Mtn on Hwy 9 and plan on taking it all the way to the ocean, including the business routes thru towns instead of the bypass routes. I think I got it all on BaseCamp but be prepared for a quick zig or zag now and then.

So, any one want the routes? I did them in BaseCamp and exported them gpx to my computer. PM an email an I'll send them.

Thanks for the GPS files, Russ, and I'll load them up, but I'll be most happy as a 'follower' and ecstatic as sweep.

Since we're riding through towns, it might be good to have as many pre-loaded GPS units as possible. We're likely to get separated by red lights and cross-street traffic at least once.

Pick a spot in line and go, makes no diff to me. I ride out front and keep an eye out for my fellow riders getting thru whatever we encounter but we're all big boys with big toys, I won't stress if someone lags behind. I figure it's my responsibility to give folks the opportunity to keep up and it's folks' responsibility to do so. Everyone has the motel address at the end, eventually we'll all get there.

I lead only b/c I was the only one with a gps and skill to use it. Rob is getting better but it's a new-to-him Zumo so he's learning. Plus I lead so I can zip off in the twisties, have a little fun then chill while the others catch up and repeat. Ken, Rob, Steve and I have logged lots of miles together so we all understand how it works. However- when we get out of S'burg and there's no twisties to be had and the distances between towns gets longer and longer I really wouldn't mind if someone on a Gen3 steps up, sets the cruise at 58, and putts on down the road. One less thing for me to think about, eh.

Ditto same for me and my "partner"....... brr...ack...ack.....shiver shiver.....bleh.....I can't even joke like that!! ......err um....not that there's anything wrong with it.......smiley smiley smiley

I'll PM yah for the maps.
Maps sent, preference changed.

Just chillin' here this morning, watching the rain, and thinking of riding and Black Mtn, NC barbecue. The last time Ken the HD Guy (left), me, and Rob the Kawasaki Guy (right) rode together and had bbq was 2 yrs ago near Guthrie, KY. Man, that was some good eats and some good riding!

ok count me in as definite, got the ok from boss as well as the guy I work for lol. also completed my TLC to bike and shes running great. I will reserve and prepay my room at end of week. Looking forward to riding down hwy 9 this will bring back old memories of a young foolish 19 year old going the same route to MB 28 years ago lol.

Can the ride route be extended to eastern Montana or maybe the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming? If so, then I am in. I'll even buy the drinks at the motel.

Excellent! Brings up a good point- don't wait long if you want a room. Whip out the credit card and do it! I've found motels in NMB fill rapidly for the summer weekends.

I suppose so, but seein's there more of us than there is of you (the singular "you"), shouldn't the route be FROM eastern MT/WY TO NMB, SC? smiley smiley smiley

Plus, one of the reasons I picked this motel in NMB (on the hwy instead of oceanfront) is b/c there are 5 restaurants, 3 with bars, within .2 miles of it: Important to me and Ken whose legs aren't as good as they used to be. The plan is for a 10 mile ride from the motel for a killer club sammich but then back for a brew or two. I choose not to partake while riding so I always plan this way. But if the weather sux or we're just too tired or whatever, we just walk to a close restaurant.
