No complaints, as I will be breakfasting Monday at Mom's Meth(odist) Manor. (Damn! Incredible alliteration there!)

Weather forecast (Columbia, SC) for this ride is nothing new. Hot: highs in the mid-90s, lows in the mid-70s. Cloudy to partly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. Monday shows 64% chance of precip, other days are 40% chance or smaller. Thankfully, humidity will be in the 50% to 60% range.

See y'all Sunday morning, 10:30-ish, RaceTrac at I-85 exit 75 (SC). Will griff, ericboutin, Walter, or anybody else be there?

So the typical summer forecast then. Better pack the rain gear....just in case. I like those humidity numbers!

Eric - I won't forget. But what I did forget was lodging for Sunday night. Spaced this out. Anyone want to room share?

I'm staying at my brother's house in Florence. There will be wine, but you'll need to bring flowers for Mom's birthday.

Yeah, typical summer weather. Nice nights, hot and humid early then showers in the PM. I'm ready- tested my rain gear in a most excellent gully washer the other day. No leaks!

Walter had to drop out, his work schedule changed. AFAIK post #1 is accurate. Ken and Steve the HD Guys and Rob the Kaw Guy and I will be there.

Sorry griff, no room at the inn with me. Ken and I share a room.

Sorry Mr. Griff, like Uncle Hud, we'll be staying with Kyle the Bandit guy's parents. His Dad is having surgery and he wants to check in on him....hmm not sure there's gonna be wine though.....hmmm what kinda flowers does your mom like Uncle Hud?! LOL

Well, I'm a moron. Assumed -- which made an *** of me -- that we would be doing this over the long 4th of July weekend. Here's my ride report:

lonely%20FJR_zps8helaoic.jpg

^^^ That's a lonely FJR at the meeting spot on I-85. Thank you, rebentnail, for replying to my Saturday night text with something like, "The ride is next weekend." Mom's birthday was this weekend, but I decided to do the Highway 9 route anyway. You know, advanced recon ... yeah, that's the ticket.

It was hot. Really, really hot. The FJR ambient temp varied between 95 and 100. Made it to Lancaster, but bailed for the quickest route. Too much travel below 45 mph. I wasn't getting airflow into my suit at the low speeds. Spotwalla link is here.

I had copied an idea from griff: CamelBak in my tank bag with a retractable reel attached to the bite valve. It was essential. Drained the 1.25 liter bag going over and coming back.

Now for the advanced recon:
(1) Highway 9 runs with US 176 in Spartanburg, but forks off somewhere near Pacolet. (That's "PAK-o-lay".) I missed it, but there was a sign farther down the road that said "To Highway 9". Corrected my mistake and continued the slow simmer on Highway 9 to Lancaster and Highway 903.
(2) Alcoholic beverages are not sold at retail in Florence County on Sundays. At all.

Be prepared for hot, humid weather, gentlemen. Safe journeys!

Yeah, Ken and Steve the HD Guys and I have been texting back and forth whining about the heat potential. This is where I get to say, "told ya's so!" Remember way back in post # 17 I said:

"Again fellas, we aren't going to be breaking any speed records and we take generous breaks. This is going to be a "look around, have some coffee, leisurely long weekend off of work" type of ride."

Remember I said that? It's b/c of the brutal heat and humidity. And remember in post #1 I said,

"If you're an ATGATT snob be aware that some participants may not meet your personal requirements. You may want to consider staying away if this is the case. JSNS."

Remember I said that? It's b/c of the brutal heat and humidity. To give an idea, yesterday for my 3pm commute to work it was 97*F and 80% humidity. Then it stormed the temperature dropped to 95*F with 100% humidity. Lovely day for a ride, steam rising rising from the pavement like your soul leaving your shriveled arid body. One of the very few times I can recall riding in 3 digit temp with 3 digit humidity was....TADA!! South Carolina! Ding ding ding! We're gonna ride all weekend in SC, where it's typically 8-10 degs warmer than here at my house!! Suck it up....

So U.H., does this mean you won't be with us on the real ride Sunday, July 10th? North Myrtle Beach has alcohol sales on Sundays, like when we will be there on Sunday, July 10th. In fact, the motel picked was because after dinner we could park the bikes and walk to any of at least 3 nearby bars on Sunday, July 10th. JS...

Umm, no, I will not be with you for the real ride on the 10th. I will be in a job interview that weekend: girlfriend's parents. (And no, my girlfriend is not 28 years old.

Dang! So much for the good money your parents spent on calendar reading lessons. Maybe the g/f can keep up with things better for you. It's ok, not everyone can be the smart kid. I'm guessing you're better at shapes and colors (like round yellow, round red, etc.) than you are numbers. I'm sure we'll have more opportunities to meet up in the future.

Yep! That's the plan --> this Sunday. SUNDAY, JULY 10th. At 10:30 a.m. Please note the a.m. part, that's in the morning. I'm hoping you're better with numbers than you-know-who ^.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So...the master plan is in motion, phase 1 is complete. griff and Ken and Steve and Rob all know where we're supposed to be when. I'm assuming eric b. and Kyle the Bandit Guy will be along. If anyone's not sure just look for the place that looks like Unc Hud's picture above on July 10th at 10:30-ish a.m.

The Master Plan is in motion! Bwahahaha!! Today is the last day of work this week, yard mowed, etc. Tomorrow is pack my stuff and welcome Rob the Kaw Guy into town.

Yep we'll be there when we are sposed to be with Mr. Griff!! Uncle Hud, I hinted and asked you about your dates possibly being goofed up! Man that's a bummer we missed yah and we are gonna miss yah on the real ride! Alright 10:30 AM with Mr. Griff on JULY 10!!! Gotcha!!

So your girlfriend's not 28, huh? If her age is close to yours, and you're going to meet her parents, are you going to a nursing home?

Her age is very close to mine and I am going to the largest nursing home on the planet: Florida.
