My current financial situation won't allow me to contribute anything but good thoughts, So kudos to you that helped make this happen

Well Barry, I'll make you a deal.

If you get off your butt and finally come around to placing a suitable patch on that riding suit the forum got you when you were in bad straights, I will personally donate to the "save Isabella" fund on your behalf (having already done so on my behalf).

For a reminder, see original post here, the condition of acceptance of said suit here, and reminders here and here.

And as I recall, Patriot donated $ towards this effort.

Payback are hell, my friend. And I got a memory like an elephant...

Wow, what a crazy day. I'll be totally honest about it, and don't tell anyone, but... I didn't get a lick of work done today.

In a bit less than 24 hours I have received Paypal donations from more than 40 generous forum members with received funds totaling more than $1850, and with three more "paper checks in the mail" on top of that.

Together we have purchased what appears to be a nearly perfect, low mileage copy of a 2005 FJR engine on eBay, and it is right now on a truck on its way to Mississippi to be installed by Patriot's trusted FJR mechanic. Since you all bought this engine, you may as well know it is being shipped via YRC Freight on tracking number 875-967702-1 (hasn't updated yet).

I'll admit that when I jumped into this last night I did so with no small amount of trepidation. What if the timing didn't work out and we didn't score the engine? How long would we have to wait on a another "good one then?" Ask ionbeam about how hard it can be to find a good replacement engine.... What if forum folks didn't respond to help out our forum buddy? Would we come up short? Would I just be stringing him along with hope only to be dashed?

Boy, was I ever wrong there. This forum never ceases to amaze me. Kudos to you all. You should all feel very good about what we are doing here.

There have been enough requests for anonymity that I will never really be able to do any kind of an accurate public accounting of all funds received. If some individual would like to step forward and audit the account I would welcome that. Otherwise I guess you'll have to trust that I'm not padding my negative retirement balance

There may have been some misunderstanding: I will only be recognizing folks who have donated when this ends by their forum names (unless they have asked for complete anonymity), no real names will ever be revealed. And also not by how much they have contributed. Some folks were comfortable in contributing some significantly large amounts, more than a few were $100, and they are certainly extremely generous to have done so. But, every contribution has been made with the same great cforum ommunity spirit regardless of the size.

Now, here are some of the comments that came to me with those donations that I know Patriot is going to want to read:

"Hope this helps Patriot get his ride back up and running."

"Good luck Patriot"

"As an ex service man myself I appreciate the work Mike (Patriot) does in supporting those who have made the ultimate sacrifice."

"Mike is a good guy and I hope we can get him up and running."

"Hope this helps get Isabella back on her feet."

"From just another guy that exploded an engine when we had $0.00 household income."

"This is the reason I ride and enjoy being a part of such a selfless community."

"For Mike's re-power fund. Really wish I could give more!"

"for the Patriot... may he ride again..."

"Can't let a PGR drive a support van!!"

"Wishing good luck to Mike. He'll be back on the road before he knows it!"

"From an italian fjr owner (and forum reader)" <<< this is someone I never knew even existed!

"Mike to get riding soon."

... and my previously reported fav: "I would like to send more money but I am out of job. I wish all the best for the Patriot!"

Correction, we are over the $1000 mark so the eBay engine is now covered.
Now let's work on getting that thing installed! I've asked Mike to get an estimate from Aaron, his mechanic. Shouldn't cost more than about $1000 in labor for an engine swap, right?
we should make sure it has a new cam chain tensioner on it before it goes it for sure.

And a valve check too. It' almost due and will be easy-peasy out of the frame. Will cost a few $$$$ in parts.

Guys,

All of these are great ideas. And I think we should be able to get everything done.

I can be the mouthpiece with Aaron in Mississippi, which makes sense since I'll probably be paying him (with your money!). But it will be somewhat difficult considering how far away I am. Even Mike isn't all that close to the shop. I have no idea how he ever found him.

Now on the other hand... if there is someone that is closer to the scene of the upcoming motor-swap action that can help facilitate with the shop, I would most appreciative to have some local eyes and ears to help.

I've only talked to Aaron on the phone briefly, but he seems like a nice enough guy. I don't think it would be any problem if someone in that area wanted to help make sure we get this all coordinated and done right.

PM me if you can spare a little bit of time to help on this.

Fred, I don't do PayPal. Never have. PM me your address and I'll mail you a check. Cash it and add it to the account. :)
I'm with majicmaker in that Papa Chuy will not deal with those Pay Pal Punks, send me an address and whom to make the check out to: Check will be in today's outgoing AZ mail!

I'm riding to Florida in 2014 during Bike Week to see RadioHowie, want to ensure I get to see this rolling mess with my own eyes. 'Zilla's riding with me to kick RH in the balls!

At one point I had some free time and I had started doing some patriot guard missions. It is quite the experience if you haven't ever done

it. Unfortunately I am back to being a working slave for the man now. My two sons were both in the military and are now out. I have never served but came

real close to signing the bottom line at one point. Having sons in the service I have an understanding of what a sacrifice it really is. I still don't know all the story's my sons went through and may never know. What Mike does with the patriot guard and his time is one of the most honorable things to do for those that have given all. I have to say thanks to all the folks here that have helped Mike out. Getting Mike back on the road again to honor our service members means a lot to me.

Thanks all,

Dave

Damn, you should've posted this as a new thread so that we'd have been aware it had gone "off-topic", and what was afoot. I'd stopped checking the thread.

I'd figured y'all were still trouble-shooting the malfunction (Yeah, even after seeing it was over 300 posts. ….You machine-head wonks can really get carried away, arguing about crush washers and such.)

Anyhooz, I'm up to speed now.

(Nicely done, Fred.)

geez, I'm overwhelmed

he's in tylertown, MS...PGR, HOG, GWRRA all found these folks in the woods and their habits are wonderful, like invite customers bike side on lift and explain what he (Aaron) is doing and how to do basic maintenance so the customer can decide to do it himself next time. Will share any info and why about repairing or working on the customer's bike right there. Charges reasonable hourly rates and undercharges in the end. But, yes, a one man shop who takes appointments and does those most mornings and does everything else as parts come in for a repair.

Aaron was a speed bike rocket ship guy for his younger years. His friends would blow up their rocket engine (expert engine changer for busa, R1, Ninja, cbx, etc) along with those pesky air cooled HD running in our July 107F 110 humidity. They don't even do Veterans Parades anymore. And PGR escorts in the summer can be brutal to body and bike.

He's pulled or swapped well over 100 engines...

A fellow PGR Ride Captain rode his Wing in with a set of police strobes and some fancy led light show strips. Aaron lit up like a Christmas tree loudly saying he's never done one of those installs before...let's get going. yanked headlights and turn signals out drilling housings while Nick & I were watching light headed with faint...and mounted everything like a police bike with switches and wiring taking all day...like 9-6. He said it was fun and charged $200 labor. Amazing.

ok, well, I mentioned CCT replacement on phone and he looked at me knodding like it was obvious and unsaid. Pair plates too... beats sealing the nipples/nozzles with epoxy or something.

his address etc is:

Pair plates, for example, should be sent to Aaron at:

Graves Cycle Repair...Aaron
209 Oral Church Rd Tylertown, MS 39667

he's 100mi from my home due north from New Orleans...or my suburb of Metairie

again I'm both exhausted from a crazy day with family, but walking 10' high in appreciation of your amazing generousity

bike.gif

We can ask him to save the engine for parts...or maybe pull stuff off...starter, engine side covers, head, whatever...he keeps broken engines sitting outside in his yard...maybe with tarp...I kept the side covers and starter from the first stock engine.

I don't have any place to store anything big or heavy.

Any ride where Radio Howie gets kicked in the nuts is a good ride!! I can't wait!!
Feb 28 through March 9 2014, get those dates off from work and tell your dogbreath Brother about Daytona Florida Bike Week Ride. Has Patch switched to liking girls yet?
I'll set those days aside and join you guys. I always go to Daytona Bike Week. I'll also meet you up at Howie's place and hold him down while Zilla kicks him in the Balls. Ohhhh What fun we'll have!
