Remember salvaged vehicles are worth about 50% of Blue Book price, according to an insurance agent I spoke with a few years back.
That can represent an awful lot of bike for very little money.

I find deals like that particularly attractive as I tend to keep vehicles a long time, so re-sale values are not top of my priority list.

resale is a concern because if I get one like this it would be just for my own curiosity and not something to keep forever, so it would have to be easily a throw-away. I have no luck selling anything. The 03 is well equipped, but really looks off with the silver/blue schemes and flat black. It's already registered and on the road. kbb says a bit over $4500, seller's asking $2400 and said he may be in the area in another week, otherwise it's a day off work to go take a peek. I noticed the dealer in Sac listed a new A for 12990. After sitting on the overpriced pig I already have, I may be leaning more towards the cheapest I can possibly get.

Resale value is not necessarily the biggest issue, though it certainly can be one.

The undisclosed damages (to frame or engine), buyer beware, caveat emptor, as is where is, etc. etc. those are the big problem. Personally, I wouldn't want the headaches of dealing with a salvage (unless it was my own) when there are so many other mighty fine 1st Gen FJRs out there with a few more miles, but very well cared for, for just a couple thousand more. You can wizz away a couple grand in parts in a big hurry.
