Zip makes a great point. In 2006 New Zealand did a comprehensive study on why Motorcycles are in accidents , similar to our HURT in the USA. The goal of the study was to reduce accidents, not just survivability. The conclusions where similar to our studies, regarding survivability but they looked at one addition criteria, color of the bike and rider. What they determined was dark colored bikes and riders where the most often "not seen" and hit. Pretty obvious , but the number was significant, a bright colored bike and rider vs a dark bike and rider was 46% less likely to be in a collision in favor of the light colors. The best when tested were the colors similar to highway workers. The helmet color was very important also.

I just came on this thread, Kevin your a good man, I hate reading this kind of stuff, prayers out to Sam and his family, this is becoming a all to familar, when is it all going to stop...

PanMan

I'm proud of you for doing the right thing. It is not a coincidence you were where you were.

There are several good lessons I was reminded of by reading the posts here - thank you everyone, but most especially PanMan.

Yeah, Big Pat on the Back Bud!! ...but Sheeez, what a suck *** way to start the day! Sure hope he's gonna be OK!

Hey Pan...you are quite the gentleman. From all of us out here, many heartfelt thanks. There but for the grace of God...

Late to the party. Geez this crashing stuff is getting me down. At least Kevin's example is nice to hear. If I ever go down, having another motorcyclist who understands what a person goes through makes all the difference. Good job, Panman.

I see these posts and I don't feel so goofy riding around in high viz fabrics with reflective lights and tape like some sort of pimped out import. If I could put a siren on my helmet, stories like this might push me to do so.
