Roseville, eh?

Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out there: Anyone available to help me get the bike from home (Concord) to Roseville? It'd be very expensive to hire a professional hauler, and my neighbor won't haul it to Roseville just for gas money.
Don't know if it would work but I have used my AAA card for such things. If its over a hundred miles use two tows.

Capital idea on the AAA. I think my RV/Moto Premier member benefit is 200 miles one way but as I understand it, AAA Motorcycle is brand new up in the Bay Area. Not sure they have it.

Hans, my trailer is just a 4 x 8 so your dragging only the weight of the FJR plus maybe 300-400# I'd guess? It's a 2" ball with a flat 4 pin connector for lights. If you have a hitch or know of someone, I can leave the trailer up there with bike on it and you can get it to Roseville at your leisure. It's gonna sit up there after I drop your bike all day Sat and Sun and I was planning on reconnecting it as I passed through on my return from Redding later on Sunday. I can leave it longer, though if the weekend doesn't work out so you can use it.

I was even thinking that since I have to drive up to Redding on Sunday from East Bay to pick up my new puppy, I could detour over to Roseville and drop it but I really don't want to drag my trailer all the way to Redding and back at 55 mph! The other sucky part is we have a sort of tight time schedule with lots of drive time on Sunday and have to be back down at home on the central coast Sunday night so my wife can get up and make it to a real important Dept. Head meeting. Aside from that I'm free as a bird.

[/scratching head & thinking]

Hans,

You don't think it was caused by the shock do you? Mojo thread I second the Roseville Yamaha nomination for the post-mortem. Their Service Manager, Zac, will give you a fair assessment of what is up with it and the cost effectiveness of a repair or present you with a burial plan complete with plot. Good luck, hope it isn't as serious as it sounds! :(

JW
Thanks, John. It's partly a logistical question--Berkeley Yamaha is closer.

I haven't forgotten our "We're Still Alive" ride. Just have been up to my ears on weekends doing lesson planning for a class I stupidly took on.

Hans
You already stated you were not happy with the cluth job that Berkley did last time, so why take it back there for more possible grief ? Hell rent a U Haul pickup for 19.95 a day and take TreeDoc up on his offer to park the trailer at your place ( TreeDoc is climbing up the Karma tree pretty high don't ya think ? :D )

So, I'd be happy to run to Concord/Roseville on Saturday from Woodland, haul the trailer home and TreeDoc can get it from my house on his way by on Sunday

Dan

Woodland's just a hop and a skip from my usual I-5 / 505 route. The only limit is I won't be through there till morning on Sun or later afternoon on my return leg.

think our weekend is quiet. But I'm too lazy to go back and read - where is your trailer and the bike now?

OK so now I think the trailer and bike are in Arroyo Grande and you were going to haul them to Concord on Friday and then turn around? And then run to RDD and back on Sunday? arghh. If that's right, and you don't need the trailer for awhile, you could drop the bike and trailer here on the way by Sunday, I can run them to Roseville on Monday (I think) and we can deal with the trailer at a later date?

Right this minute it's in Arroyo Grande down here on the coast. Friday I'll drag it up to the East Bay for Hans. I have wedding detail up there. Friday is rehearsal shit & dinner, Saturday, late in the day, Wedding. Sunday, drive to Redding to get my new Labrador Puppy and drive back south for home. My route up and back...680 / 80 / 505 / 5 then return in the opposite.

lets see if Hans is OK w/ all this, but if it works for you, we could go back to the first idea (pretty sure Zac is open on Saturday, right?). Happy to meet you along 505 to ease the pain on Sunday. Dang shame I'll be at Birds Landing Friday, but not w/ a tow vehicle... I'll check back in tomorrow. need my beauty rest.

Tom, thank you for the bike offer. Things are up in the air, so I will have to get back to you.

As for AAA, I used my Foremost towing benefit to get the bike from Atascadero to SLO.

Tree Doc and glas1/2ful, I am down with whatever makes sense for you two, since I am at your disposal. Not sure where we stand now though in terms of what you two are thinking through....

Hey Hans, I have a trailer you can use. I don't have anything available to pull it right now.

So if you can come up with something to pull it with, you are welcome to use it.

Same offer goes to anyone else needing a trailer.

It is 6' X ll', it is set up to carry 4 bikes, has two tool boxes, compressed air tank, and a vise mounted on one fender.

Hans, I agree with the others that this is most likely a repairable clutch, and of course, all of my mechanic credentials are behind that "guess". Nevertheless, the transmission mostly consists of hard gearing, splines and parts that tend to shear, lock and grind when they fail, and what you described is a relatively soft-landing typical for clutches.

I respect the reputation that Roseville Yamaha has acquired with this collective, but wondered if anyone had an opinion on Capital Yamaha on Auburn Blvd. I have had exceptional service there, but have not done anything major yet. They have been prompt, extremely fair and seem to have a competent head mechanic. Anyone?

lets see what TreeDoc says, but if he's towing to Concord on Friday, AND if Roseville Yamaha is still the target destination and is open on Saturday, I can meet you two in Concord Saturday morning (yes, before noon!), I'll tow it to Roseville and take the trailer home. TreeDoc and I can work out how/when he gets his trailer back but since he's going to Redding on Sunday, that seems pretty easy. If you want, PM for phone numbers. If Roseville isn't open on Saturday, than HCYCLE's trailer could come into play and we can get the bike there next week - see, its as easy as a valve adjustment!

That all works for me. If Hans has a safe place for me to park the trailer on Friday, I could get it there before my rehearsal in Livermore at 1:45. If that fails, then Sat morning would be no problem. Getting back in the mindset of afternoon traffic on a Friday which is non-existent down here, I might be screwed if I attempt in my 3:30-5:30 window before our dinner event. I'm NOT missing out on a 24oz Prime Rib at Haps Steakhouse in Pleasonton :dribble:

So Hans, let me know if you have a good spot for me to drop this baby on Friday around noon, I can lock the tongue and give you the combo. Once she's unhooked, it can be rolled around quite easily if that helps. Otherwise, Saturday morning sometime is no issue for me.

Dan, I'd guesstimate a rendezvous for you and I would be around 4:30-5 p.m. I have a stop in Willows to make and could call you on my departure from there (about 1.25hrs north). A meet and greet near the 505 would be absolutely epic for me as I'm still looking at 4 more hours of road time after already putting on about 8! Perhaps at 505 and the 16 intersection if that's convenient for you? Or wherever you might suggest?

This all pending on Commander Han's approval. :p

TreeDoc - dang P-town was my childhood home town! I take it Hans is in Concord? DO NOT mess w/ East Bay traffic Friday afternoon. Concord is a better deal than Pleasanton for me Saturday but not by a whole lot. Late afternoon Sun 16x505 is fine. Only cost to you is the extra 5 minutes my wife will need to be there to see the new lab puppy, and then the cost to me of the hours of "can we get (another) one?" that will surely follow.

standing by for the Commander's orders!

Whether Friday or Saturday, the package will be delivered to Hans' place in Concord. I'm staying in San Ramon so it's close.

As for Puppy delays, I strongly encourage it! I'll be socializing this little devil right off the bat after he completes his Parvo regimen. He'll only be 7 weeks old when you guys see him!

Meet STEWIE! He's the one on the right pulling the towel I left for him last Sunday. Already full of piss and vinegar and chasing down Pigeons like a pro!

Well, since as far as I can tell I don't even have to get out of bed...approved! But I am going to have to pay it forward for a looooong time to return the kindnesses that Tree Doc and glas1/2ful are extending to me. :clapping:

On logistics, the trailer and bike could fit into my garage. Both Fang and I will be at work, so we will devise hidden keys or something. And my Harley neighbor may be home across the street.

Hycle, thanks for the offer of the trailer.

Hans

(Cute puppy.)

Hope it turns out to be something less drastic then the initial report.

It's awesome to see the forum members stepping up to assist.

Good on ya Tree Doc!

Gunny!
Here's adding glas1/2ful to this sentiment. :clapping:
