Thanks for the encouraging words and especially the humor!

I've made it almost a week, which is a good sign.

I posted this personal information so I would be too embarrassed to start smoking again, but after this threat from Tyler;

How about this... John, if you choose to pick up another cigarette and light up, the cheerleader police will pick you up and lock you up in a room over the border in Baja with this one for a week. Your choice... :D

I'm done. Although at first, being picked up by the cheerleader police was sounding VERY promising. I was hoping Barb, Tyler, and MEM still had there old uniforms and made house calls!

(Come to think of it,"The Cheerleader Police" is a great name for a band.)

I'm still determined and feeling good. I hope Richard and Bungie follow through, and anyone else out there who needs to quit, especially any of you youngsters.

If you quit while you are young, you can prevent a lot of damage. All I can do is keep it from getting worse.

Reason #2 to quit:

That's a great reason. Not many people live long enough to spend time with their great-great-grandchildren. ;)

Sorry man, couldn't resist the temptation. Maybe some of that Chantix will help me too.

My noggin is as stiff as a Red*wood* tree on a cold winter's Whiskey day. ;)
Carver's got a stiffie!!! :D
Tyler, with it only being 1-7/8", how could you tell?

Sure makes one wonder why Don would have that precise information and was Dolly a witness.
Hey Ray, Bustanut joker and johnny80's partied hearty with dcarver last week in San Diego and they told me! I mean, if you can't trust a Day-Glo **** and a Michigan Sheep Fecker, then who in the hell can you trust? Thank goodness it's Friday!!!

Most non-smokers, and some smokers, won't really understand.

I was-am seriously hooked on cigarettes, especially the last ten years or so. I was up to almost two packs a day.

I have tried to quit lots of times; patches, gum, cold-turkey. I quit for a few days taking the Chantix once before, but the drug made me sick.

I decided to try the Chantix again, and since I'm not working, I would put up with the side effects.

Last night it was 5 days since I smoked. I'm feeling better, but I'm still 5 minutes away from heading to the store at any given minute.

The Chantix is a hell of a drug; I feel like I'm ready to puke at the drop of a hat most of the time.

It also makes sleep an adventure. I've stayed up for 36 hours some days, and slept for 12 the next.

(To be honest, fifteen years of rotating shift work hasn't worn off yet, either.)

They warn about "vivid dreams" and they are not kidding! I could write several stories.

They also warn about fun things like suicidal thoughts, depression, mania, confusion, hallucinations etc.

So far, no one has been able to tell the difference. :D :( :)

I've decided I am going to make it this time. It's been 5 1/2 days.

Yesterday I walked through someones smoke cloud and it smelled terrible.

Don't let my experience with Chantix scare you, it's worth the trouble, and some people have no problems at all.

I'm proud of you for trying. Keep at it John.

Keep at it, just said goodbye to a good friend who didn't make it to 60. Lung and bone.

One minute/day at a time dude.

Check my avatar for my inspiration...

I have been on Chantix for a little over 4 weeks so I feel your pain. I am also sick to my stomach some of the time (right after taking the pill mostly) but I have no trouble sleeping. I did go riding with Christy Brinkley last night and the things she asked me to do... :p I think the biggest thing for me is to change my habits and routines. I haven't smoked in the house in 20 years or in a vehicle for the last 10. I've stopped going to the barn in the morning before I leave for work and that has helped.

Have your taste buds gone wacky? Some foods that I really usually enjoy tastes like garbage. I'm going to really try to stick this out. Good luck.
