Rich, I sat your bike today at Goodtimes, felt good! Oh wait... I guess I should say I sat your bike today Steve. Ian, can't you set that new high-dollar machine to DUALSPORT and press MAKE ONE?
Funny I was at Goodtimes today also. I was told on the phone that they would deal but when I got there just before closeing with money in hand there idea of dealing was sticker plus about 300 plus tax liciense and doc fee's

Soooo.... no deal me no buy.

I guess I will have to ride the 4wheel drive pick up for now

'08 KLR650 in Blue 21 to be picked up tomorrow. Paid full boat for the 4 year factory warranty, but the dealer's $199 transportation cost and $650 mark up (both added onto the $5,349 msrp on the sticker) disappeared just before closing time (7:00 pm) this evening in Roseville. Might have done better if there were more '08s in the area, but thanks to Highlander for giving me that Santa Rosa ammunition. Roseville Cycle Center has a red '08 left, and both red and black '07s, which I expect are going to be hard to sell for msrp1 as long as any '08s are sitting next to them for only $150 more in msrp.
Did you try Roseville? Are you looking at an '08? If so, they probably aren't going to deal because the demand is too high right now (Note Rich's comments.). For an '07...things might be different.

Calling ******** on that conclusion.

oops! :dribble:
Hmmmm. Looks like Cindy has picked out the jewelery already. And we have fresh meat on the barbie. Let's see if we can season it. My contribution:

2. You will learn dirt specific gear is your friend.
I don't know if I want to go that steeply in debt at the moment (I've already priced a helmet...dayang! I hate to think about dirt boots, armor, etc.)). I'm really a dirt road/fire road kinda guy...and 1st & 2nd gear suits me just fine
I would really appreciate some education on appropriate gear for this bike, including footwear. I'll be riding it mostly on dirt roads, but will be riding it on asphalt to get there. I picked up a Scorpion helmet and some Scott clear goggles (in pic above) on my way to pick up the bike. Between farkles for yet another bike and gear, too -- I don't know when I'm going to stop spending what I earn on motorcycles.

Back in the days I was riding in the dirt, as you will certainly recall, dirt bikes did NOT have long travel suspension.
Let's see, I started on a Parilla 250 "Scrambler" (in high school, then while in the Navy I bought a Honda 305 "Scrambler" but only rode it on the street. Yessir, those were real dirtbikes, though I did ride some friend's Suzukis and Kawis (twostroke 175s & 250s) in the early 70's. Hmmm, I may be dating myself.
I graduated from a Honda 90 to a Triumph Tiger Cub 200 (which seemed fast as hell to me back then). Friends had Bultaco, Hodaka and CZ bikes (I think it was CZ). In the mid 70s, I rode a couple Yamaha enduros (250, but one might have been a 350??), including one I borrowed for a couple months to ride from where I was staying to job sites out of Steamboat Springs when I flew back to get my painting job back (and left my Z1 in LA with the first wife until I could come back and get it).

Nice looking scoot there Rich.

Yea there's blood in the water and the sharks are circling. I'm a wounded seal waiting for a quick end

Steve, save yourself, let 'em move on to Skyway. I put about 110 miles on it today, the first day I could actually get familiar with it. Save yourself the money, and DO NOT buy this bike. Underpowered, slow, nowhere near the brakes we've come to expect, severely limited in corners on pavement and on dirt roads . . . .

(Don't read anymore, please.)

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHI-ITE!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the most fun you can have without getting arrested!! PERFECT compromise with gearing and set up and motor for cruising at 5 to 10 over, cornering on pavement (flat, up or down) and ripping through the dirt roads of the gold rush era with either that perfect thumper purr or power chug.

40 out of Auburn to Ponderosa Rd. across to the Foresthill divide, then down Yankee Jim's to Shirttail Canyon to Iowa Hill to Colfax, west on 40 to Yankee Jims back to Spring Valley Road to Foresthill divide down to the confluence and up to Auburn. And I'm only in the back yard with this thing yet!!!!

Holy ****! No . . .

**** ME!!!

This bike is more fun than I'd imagined. It's beginning to break in a bit, and I made it get dirty and carve paved uber twisties. Holy mother of thumper, this thing is a gold plated BLAST!!!!!!!!

I retract anything I may have said or implied about its lack of power. It seems like it might be just right in all those perfect compromise ways -- kinda like the FJR is.

Easy there, Sport! Don't let those 36 ponies outta the barn all at once!
Yer right: I did get carried away.

Damn, though -- that bike is fun. For me, I think it's the right bike. If I'd wanted to lean a little more toward long distance road warrior (e.g., Alaska-bound), I'd probably have bought the V-strom 650 -- you done good on that one. A little more in the dirt direction, and I think it might be Andrew's DRZ (esp., his SM verson). I could EASILY live with either. I'm most grateful that neither the big BMWs nor the big KTMs fit the niche I wanted, since they also don't fit in the budget. I'm really liking the compromise this updated new KLR seems to present. And most of all:

All those roads where I stopped at the end of the pavement on another bike or in my car are now fair game. :yahoo:

Try folsom too. By the way, that salesguy at Goodtimes is, IMO, an ass.

First he tried to pull the same thing you described: Call in and he promises a price and then acts like he never did. Then he lied to me about having an '07 DRZ in stock and was going to sell me the '06...when I called him on it, he said, "I never said I had an '07."

D'ya think?!? That is his reputation. :glare:  It seems to be a "one purchase, never see you again" dealer. :dribble:
It's really a shame. The combination of brands they have is really cool, that place could do a LOT better than they do.
Sweet pics Rich...glad to hear you like it so much. I guess you owe us all dinner now for convincing you that you need it
