Let's just say that some folks are gone due to differences of opinion between the inmates and the folks running the asylum, and some are done with the drama that, at times, comes with it.

This ain't new ****, folks. It seems like every few years or so this crap boils up.

After reading all of this I can never have just one beer again.

Geek you have found a very eloquent way of describing the situation. However I bet "folks" could be replaced with one person. I must refrain from stating that name so that my pacifier is not taken away & I am forced on a time out!

Not to quibble about the number cited or identity/actions implied, but imagine the difference (e.g., in tolerance, consideration, camaraderie) that getting laid well and regularly might make. Wouldn't it be nice if "**** you" was a benevolent wish of such good fortune to one another?

I enjoy the forum, much useful info gleened here over the years, people leaving is certainly a loss but whatever happened to going quietly into the night? I appreciate the folk(s) managing the forum for all their efforts to maintain, seems to be a thankless task at times.

Occasionally a forum's continued existence becomesdependent on the clueless remaining....clueless.

In this case, a few wolves have moved on and the

sheepdogs are resting quietly.

This thread has received more attention than it deserved.
Hope, as you stated, your analogy was not intended to put the subject of the thread in the light of a "wolf". The analogy you chose is usually used to describe the psychopath "wolves" and those that stand in the way through some form of sacrifice "sheepdogs".

Many of the true "sheepdogs" of this country I count as brothers. I don't know many of the folks here on a truly personal level. But I can tell you Bob showed up without being asked multiple times to help my family when I could not. He has stepped up time and again for technical assistance to many, ride planning, leading, drunken fun, and pics. If anyone around here deserves a positive title in an analogy, it's Bob. (although he does sometimes ride like a psycho). It was reading of the support many of you gave Tyler and the occasional ball busting fun that has kept me here all these years. Otherwise, this is just a place to learn way too much about oil and why many of you deserve an engineering job a Yamaha.

He and many others that have left will be missed. Bottom line, he is rolling out for his reasons and we should wish him well. Peace out brother!...FYB

This isn't the first time there has been a dust up on the Forum. Sorry to see folks leaving. Best wishes to all of you. I will be here and I will be there.

Speaking generally, and being someone who has been in management for 25 years, I find it interesting when statements are made like "Well, this is nothing, every few years a bunch of previously happy people get upset and storm off to greener pastures".

This (at least to me) would certainly be indicative of a serious systemic problem somewhere. Especially if it has happened more than once with some level of predictability.

This is not a women's quilting forum or other form of estrogen car wash, it is mostly older guys hanging talking about mechanical stuff and so on ... Usually with a beer in hand .. Older guys with a beer in hand are generally a happy sort ...

And from where I sit, no one WANTED to leave ..

If it were simply a case of ruffled feathers, people tend to dust off, relax and come back for more ...

When grown men (who are normally reasonable) cut the cord and then spend time and energy to construct an alternate place, I have to assume that lines of reason have been crossed repeatedly ... Somehow, someway ..

Now, no one has pissed me off and I have no horse in this race but this is how an observer sees it ...

Absolutely BEST post in this thread so far. Actually best post in all the threads with this same underlying basis so far.

It's called FREE WILL. We all make choices in life. Some like the Patriots and some like Green Bay.

You decide,

I don't know the OP's reasons and won't put words in his mouth, but if we're talking systemic problem that has long been the subject of in-person gripes among adult male friends who ride and socialize together, then the causes are pretty well known. Surely, OTOH, operating this board is fraught with problems and can be thankless, even though almost all of us appreciate the resource that is provided. So, any constructive suggestions about how to harmonize those two, sometimes polar perspectives?

I'll start with one issue. I think most men would agree that the one thing that always gets their backs up, and would only be tolerated from one person (their mother) is being scolded and treated like a child. Worse if it's public. Communication is a two way street (sending and receiving) and is hard, especially if the goal is to get another to understand your point. So, if you're sending, at least think about the effect on the receiver of the message you have crafted before you hit send or post. All of us would benefit from trying harder in that regard, but heavy handed admin/moderation would especially benefit.

^^^^ There is the task of admin/moderation which is unfortunately needed and then there is the style in which it is administered unto the children that is is performed with. I would never allow any managers of mine to use some styles of administration.....

I have been the hugely grievously offending receiver of such communication from time to time. I figured it was the price of admission, but definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. I feel like on this forum I pretty much have to watch everything I say, and even when I think I'm being good I'm thinking about an admin smacking me in the head.

Even with that observation, this is a good forum and I'll try to adjust my behavior to suit the admins. I have no idea what positives or negatives go along with their responsibilities but I imagine they are multitudinous, and until I'm ready to step up and take over for them, I salute and appreciate them.

Seek first to understand, then seek to correct (if necessary).

I must be pretty unintentionally bad, right? OTOH, maybe the admin head smackings have intimidated me from posting more? Again, I love this place. Motorcycle
