Bluesman came up with a great idea our last ride, a trip up to Big Bear before it gets cold again. How is August looking for everyone? Ive been to Big Bear twice since I moved to California so I am not familiar with any routes up there. Lets start putting this one together. Is anyone interested?

Depending on the timing, that might be a ride that would lure me from the other side of the mountain to meet up w/ ya'll for lunch.

Definately interested. But it would have to be later in August for me, if that matters.

Here's a route suggestion...

Meet up in Riverside area (91 and 215 approx?).

Head toward the 18 and on through Lake Arrowhead / Runnings Springs.

On to Big Bear Lake -> lunch <-

Head home on the 38 (back way out of Big Bear).

Also, a couple of good campgrounds around Big Bear and along the 38, for those interested in such things.

I would be interested and I am somewhat familiar with Big Bear and can help plan a route. I'm willing to go do a scout ride tomorrow if anyone is interested B)

Here is a route I put together real quick for an idea of what we can do. I figure once we get down the 38 we can all split up and head our seperate ways. I started the route near my house off the 91/15 fwy just for reference. We could meet here if anyone is interested.

How bout starting @ point C and extending it past Silverwood on the 138. Some could split off @ the 138/15 junction. I'd continue on 138, cut and run Big Pines Hwy, and if some want to make a ride of it, drop onto Pearblossom, then to Angles Forest Highway till it runs into Angeles Crest.

Hope I can make a suggestion, that the ride begin early. If not, cage traffic will be much heavier. I am very familiar with the roads listed in your map and will pass the processions of cars.

Dan - Go for it (Goats Fart). This one is yours! Late August is better for me too.

My .02¢ thinking about this when I talked to Slappy was go up 38 and and down 330. I thought 38 would be better going up rather then down. IIRC 38 a was steeper climb and shorter then 330. 330 was longer and more gradual a climb. It's been a while since I've been on either, so I don't really mind either way. 138 does have some major tight twisties after Silverwood for a few miles. Dan, if you pre-run it, let us know what is best. ;)

I also got my new little camera for better pix. :yahoo: Gave my vinatge 90's camera to my youngest daughter.

I was only throwing out a suggestion myself the route I posted is not set in stone. Once we get more feedback from everyone who wants to go we can finalize the route. I have only ridden big bear on my bike once and all the other times in a cage so I dont really know the best bike routes up there anyway.

This is what this post was ment to start, ideas. Different routes and why a specific route is the way to go, IE scenery, twisty, more lethal, less lethal... maybe something different all together. Any roads up there people have wanted to ride, never been on but heard other talk? Might be fun to take the road less traveled. Just a thought

I'm definately in for late August. :yahoo: I will be stuck caging it to Amarillo, Texas then down to Deming, New Mexico and no time on the Feej till I get back. :( I will be hurting for some time on the bike, and away from the kids. ;)

i would be down for August, only if A.) its not on the 2nd Saturday B.) and long Sunday ride. you are all a lot farther away than I, and you want to meet up early in the morning, i get in a hotel so i could be ready in advance. work day mondays start @ 5:00AM reason for "home by sunday night"

So far all three rides have been on a Saturday. Saturdays ar ebest for me also. I'm expecting that will still be the case this time, but I guess that will be up to "the collective".

Here is another route idea. I had trouble getting the exact route but this gives a good idea of mileage for you guys coming from the south. I figure we could hit some back roads around silverwood/arrowhead. I ended it on the 138/15 so those that want to head home can jump on the 15 and if anyone wants to hit hwy 2 after still can.

The 23rd works for me :clapping:

I'm in for August 23rd.

Please get this on one post. I think we have about 3 different posts open regarding a Big Bear ride. I can't keep up with this. Maybe get an admin to close some. Have them scream at you first, then threaten to cut you off at the knees. You know, in good spirit. :D

Still working on the details. Speaking for myself I would like to do something as far north as possible. Let the old farts like Bluesman keep the old bones from locking up before we get to Big Bear.

How does something like this sound. All the San Diego folks meet at our normal place off of 15. Pick up the LA Orange County folks at a place of their choosing in Temecula.
