Alright, here we go...... new Aux Lights that I am road-testing: Spot HIDs!

These are a cross between the PHIDs, and the PIAA 910s:

Like the PHIDs, they throw out a staggering amount of light for their size.....

But unlike the PHIDs, the beamcast is a tightly-focused pencil-beam, ala the PIAA 910:

These were just installed today, and I'll be testing them out on the way to WFO tonight:

They consume 35-watts a apiece, and will cost ~ 1/3 less than the PHIDs!

Pretty cool, huh? B) I'm going the aim them tonight, then put them to the test on the road.... more to follow...

The vendor wants me to thoroughly test them before he puts them on the market. ASSuming the tests go well, I believe the price will be around $475 (thereabouts) for the pair.

Availability prior to the Little Ride that starts in Denver in ~ 2 weeks is a bit questionable, if that was your intention... :D

But can I install them without a relay? <running for cover> Sorry, somebody had to say it. A clean bike is also a blue bike. Those things are always clean when I see 'em.

Not according to this year's First Place Finisher in the Utah 1088... riding a blue FJR:

I'll be interested to see what you think of the pencil beam and how you aimed them during your test. How long do you think you'll test them before a report and release of product is forthcoming? These sound very interesting! :agent:

I sincerely hope that they will be available in black instead of GAC (gay-ass-chrome.) :D

 Holy bankruptcy, Batman! 475 Somalians?! Thanks, but I think I'll tape my MagLite to the handle bars... (yeah, yeah, yeah... I know, forest rats and all, save the lecture... ;) )

By the way, has anyone affixed driving lamps to the front brake caliper areas on this machine and if so, how do you like them there v. hanging off the mirror mounts? I just always thought it might be better to have those turn with the direction of the bars...

So are they just a 35w halogen bulb?
No bulb (is this a joke?)

HID-do a search on the pros and cons of High Intensity Discharge

I'm spoiled by my HID

I'd hide that gay ass chrome stuff though....people would start asking me if it was a HD :D

And Twowheelnut, the bars move in the oposite direction of the turn so don't put em on the forks if you want to see with them.

Well they look like just a MR16 halogen lamp from the pics. So WC are they HID or Halogen?

Er, maybe to start the turn, yeah, but if you're leaning through a left and turn your bars right, it's gonna get ugly. Pushing on the bars help to get the bike turning the way you wanna go, but the tire still has to point and follow in the direction you want to go. Otherwise, you'd never make the turn.

Thank you TWN. Sometimes people are just scary. Just because you are pushing the opposite direction doesn't mean the wheel is pointing that direction.

A clean bike is a gay bike.
If that's the case then my bike's about as straight as they get. Living down 1/2 mile of dirt road helps.

People have, and while they work well enough, two issues have arisen. The vibrations eminating from being attached to the suspension tends to shorten bulb and unit life, and the lights are too low to be be of much use as a driving light, but perfect for a fog lamp. Not mentioned often is that they are subject to a lot more debris mounted low, front, and center as they are. I do know that 475 samolians are beyond the reach of the radwallet, my cheapie Hellas may not be state of the art, but they help and were way affordable. As to clean machines, I keep Frank pretty spotless when I can. A positive aspect of this not mentioned here is that many existing or potential problems have been discovered by me when detailing my skooters. Nothing like a hands on approach to prevent future disasters. ;)
