Just for fun, or just to P.O the cagers, has anyone ever considered and completed deleting the Yama cans and installing solid pipes to finish off the exhaust system.

I have a creative Muffler shop nearby who would do it. And I don't like the idea of drilling out the stock pipes.

GO.

I need more than just no. That would be too simple and obedient. My personality needs a good reason WHY NOT .

One would be state noise and/or vehicle statutes. The other would be "Loud Pipes Cost Rights". Let the ****[1] get off on their loud pipes.

[1] South Park reference to redefining the words (since it's changed meanings many times over the centuries).

Obviously ****

Bike's engine management system designed with OEM pipe's back pressure. Your maximum power would be reduced. Bragging rights at the bar would therefor be compromised. And bragging rights are the only reason I can see for straight pipes.

Fair enough. Bragging "rights" are not my cup O tea for making it louder. Definitely would hate to lose any performance due to loss of back pressure ( the power available is my favorite part of the bike ) ... Guess the shop just saw $ in trying to sell more work.

I had this whole Friday post all done up about how stupid the Loud Pipes philosophy is, and how even stupider it is on a sporty bike, but changed my mind. I now exercise personal restraint and refrain from pointing out that being obnoxiously intrusive to other peoples' spaces and environments with total disregard for their expectation of peace and privacy is just arrogant and moronic.

So I'm not going to say any of those things or use such adjectives to describe the OP. Instead, I'll modify Mike's post:

any bike (on public streets) that causes little kids to cower against their mother's leg is ridden by a piece of ****

Here we go again -- **** NO!!!! I'm with Ray. Last thing we need is more motorcyclists pissing everyone off with deafening noise so that they lobby Sacramento for more noise and exhaust limitation statutes. You're not aware of the latest California legislation applicable to 2013 and later model motorcycles that prohibits virtually anything but OEM pipes?!? Any idea how that came to pass?

I'm not against an exhaust system making a little more noise, but not that deafening crap! FWIW, on a 4 cylinder bike, a 4-2-1 header system taking advantage of valve overlap can actually increase HP significantly (and it's pretty light weight), but you can't put one of those on a 2013 FJR in Calif now. And if you damage an OEM exhaust system on a 2013 under our new law, you can't replace it with a less expensive, lighter and/or higher performance aftermarket system -- you're stuck with buying a spendy new OEM system. And you want to make that kind of legislative **** worse?!?!?

I know personally how those who lobby against motorcycle noise and exhaust systems feel, whether I'm in my cage, on my bike or especially outdoors at a restaurant when some inconsiderate ******* is letting everyone know HE is in the area. I've had it happen too many times (e.g., at the Big Salad in Auburn) when everyone's conversation had to stop while we wait for the ****** on an unmuffled bike to get out of range. I truly wish I could shoot the ************. I know I'd lose my right to own firearms and my freedom, but damn if it wouldn't be tempting to learn the inconsiderate MFer some manners. Why exactly would you even consider wanting to piss off fellow travelers in a cage, BTW? Don't you ever drive a car?

huh? Can't hear you. Oh wait, this is probably b/c of my HD friends, not you

Effff. Boy, your goats are on really long leases.

Here I am throwing an idea on the table and the wolverines tear it to shreds.

Yes, my prior bike was a POS HD.

No I wasn't going for pain in the kids ears LOUD. Just a thought ....

Yes I love the comfort, quiet efficiency and reliability of the FJR. Just thought this group could have a discussion w/o being *** hats. " Wait a minute...yer stupid is showing. ...or is that tsudip?"
