Sold STS Harnesses for Gen II FJR1300s $10 plus shipping

Recently a forum member asked me if I would make him a Smart Turn System (STS) harness for his Gen II bike - the kind I made last year for mine and offered one for sale on the forum. Since he asked so nicely, I decided to order five connector sets from Eastern Beaver, and I made him a harness. That left me with four more to assemble. So, I am offering these four harnesses to forum members (Gen II FJR owners) for the price of $10, which just covers the cost of parts, plus shipping. I am not making money on these harnesses, they just gave me something else to do besides coding all day on the computer.

The credit for the harness idea goes to another forum member, @DesignFlaw (Tim) who gave me the OK to use his design. His original post was on the thread at https://www.fjrforum.com/threads/sts-smart-turn-system-installation.169414/post-1338417.

The harness plugs directly into the bike's existing connectors for the left handle bar controls, and into the STS module's connections (B06XD71KSW, available at https://www.amazon.com/Smart-Turn-System-automatic-cancelling/dp/B06XD71KSW.). The wiring colors of the harness (closely) match the colors of the STS module's wires and terminals for easy, quick installation. The nice thing about using the harness is that the STS module can be easily replaced or removed at any time without disturbing the bike's original wiring.

No, I am sorry. The Gen IIIs have a different connector type and wiring. Also, the connection is located behind the instrument cluster, but accessible from under the panel behind the windshield - I think. I only have a Gen II bike, so I am not familiar with Gen IIIs setup. I only saw a picture someone posted of it before.

Hi @Fishin VA Thank you for the information. I find it interesting how the diagrams and connectors differ between the Gen II and Gen III bikes. Apparently the diagrams are also different between the 2008 - 2012 and 2013+ bikes too, although I don't have access to a high resolution of those. I have a FSM for my '06, and the Haynes manual that covers all models, but the Haynes manual does not go into the level of detail the FSM does with connectors and pin positions. I am glad that you were able to make a harness for your 2016 work. The Gen II harnesses we made are much simpler to assemble and install for the STS Module (somewhat less expensive too). To start with, the Gen II connectors are not "sealed", so the terminal pins easily pop into position just by pushing them into their spots with free hand. Then, the wiring options in the 13-pin connector for Gen II also included a "power" and "ground" leads that we were able to tap into, so we did not have to search for another power and ground source for the STS module itself. The installation location is also a lot more accessible on the Gen II. It seems that you had to mount the STS module quite some way from the connections as there is not much room in the nose piece to mount the STS module the correct (horizontal - forward) way instructed. Great job, and thanks for the info again. Very interesting.

Hi @Santana17 , even though I would love to help you and other FJR riders with Gen III harnesses, I don’t have enough information on the exact pin positions and wiring options for power supply to the STS module itself. I don’t have a factory service manual, and a Gen III bike that I can use to verify what is needed for making the harness and its mounting options. This way I don’t feel confident in making a harness for newer bikes - for others especially.

In my case I have an ‘06 FJR and a service manual. With @DesignFlaw06 ’s excellent description of his process, and doing an STS installation and testing on my bike myself, I felt confident enough to make some harnesses for others. Another thing is that I liked making the harnesses because assembling them gave me a welcome break from my daily routine. However, I didn’t do it for making money on them. Ordering parts, making them, and shipping them out takes a lot of time that I don’t have much to spare. I hope that you understand.

I'm about to attempt an install for a friend's Tracer 9 GT. I've been digging into what connectors I would need to do something similar to what I did with mine. On the surface, I think the 13 pin connector is the same between the 2016+ FJRs and the Tracer 9. I would be willing to make two harnesses if you're still interested, provided that we can confirm the pinout and wiring on the 2016+.
