Finally got em done yesterday, but Uncle Sam says I don't need any more farkles for awhile. Cost me 67 bucks this year... oh well. No money back but at least they're done.

How'd you guys do this year? Any farkling planned with your newly acquired millions?

Just sent mine in, unfortunately my daughter thinks she's smart enough that she has quit college. That and she made too much money for me to claim her. :angry2: At least you can put it on the card and get some air miles. That and increasing my withholding to cover next year. Oh, well, gotta drink the cheap stuff for a while.

Sounds like you had your taxes figured out about right!! "They" didn't get to earn interest on your money this year!

It's always a wave of relief to get my taxes done, but I've gotta get them done by the beginning of March or the intrigue kills me.

I did have a little left over, so I bought some Motorcycle camping gear, tent, lightweight summer down bag, and sleeping pad.

Coincidentally, just got mine done this morning.

Yeah, those of us that are paying, we procrastinate :) Not so sure I like this "flip side" where you have your own (semi) business, and have to spend hours with turbo tax figuring out yer best options. Maybe next year I'll try to write it all off! Only if it's realistic though... I don't want to mess with the IRS, even though I'd be saying to em over and over ... "ya can't get blood out of a turnip ya dummies!!" ;)

I do the automatic extension and don't give them any $$$$$$$$$ until October! :angry2: Screw him, he can just wait to give my tax money away. <_<

I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

Anyone got $8K to lend? I don't know how I'm going to do this.

I feel your pain or used to. Haven't had to file taxes since 97. :p It might be the only benefit for being disabled :) .

Finished fed and state last week and the local income tax over the weekend. I was in no hurry because I was writing checks, not getting them.

Next year will suck because we're moving. Doing all the prorated stuff for each state and locale really blows. I'll have to start in January to finish by April.

Ya got me curious, what cha usin' for a tent? Is it motorcycle spcific? I took my 8x8 coleman last year... with a "cot" that cha gotta assemble on site each nite, and a bankie (fine for my summer trip). I figured a pad would take up too much space, but was curious about the three things you listed. As we all know, there's not a great deal of space back there once ya start packin' up.

Uh, dude...money is due April 15 (17th this year) whether you file an extension or not. You'll just end up with penalties and interest on the underpayment. If you owe, you should send a check by midnight tomorrow!

Tiny refund, although it is 3 digits, not 2. So no new lenses, camera bodies, or furniture. Not even a summertime power bill. Maybe a good pair of motorcycle gloves or boots, just not both.

For the past three years we've been paying someone else to do our taxes. I get a whole week of my life back every year!

I wish our politicians would stop bickering about making one group pay more so another group can pay less. They should REALLY be talking about simplifying the tax code so it isn't insanely complicated to figure them out.

Well, I originally purchased a Eureka Backcountry 1 from Aerostitch, which is a one man tent. It arrived and the packed size is 5" x 15", about the size of a loaf of bread. I set the tent up in my living room and it seems to be very well made and stout! But, there's only room for one guy (I'm 6' 2") and his sleeping bag and NOTHING ELSE. I started thinking, what about all my gear, and what if the weather is bad and I have to spend a day or two in this thing?????

I realized the Eureka wasn't going to work for many trips, so I did a little research and purchased a Marmot Limelight 3P (3 person), for just about $35.00 more than the Eureka. I set it up in the living room and realized, "This is more like it". Easy to set up, lots of room in the tent for one person and all their gear, plus room under the fly for more stuff, and still packs down to a very reasonable packed size of 22:x 8", which fits in my dry bag, just fine. It's relatively light too, at about 6 lbs, AND it comes with a "footprint" (fitted ground cloth), which most other manufacturers charge extra for.

The Marmot tent has received good reviews, as has the Eureka.

Hope this helps!

Healthy quadruple digit refund (in other words, a refund of my interest free loan to the US government) this year.

Already spent on other bills (wife, three pets, three kids, three cars, one motorcycle, bathroom remodel - you do the math).

Last year hit 5 digits because we bought a new house and got nearly $7000 rebate. Spent paying other bills (see above).

By the way, REI makes an awesome one man and two man backpacking tent. My 18 year old son did a 500+ mile hike across Spain last summer with one (Quarter Dome T1) - no noticeable wear and tear. Packs small and light. Not big enough to sleep next to your FJR, though.

We've had two of the REI Halfdome 2-man tents going for over 8 years and still going strong.

We and other Scout families have had some issues with Eurekas leaking. They ARE less expensive, however, if you can stand risking getting wet.

Got mine done last week. Thanks to four cute little dependents I'll get a nice refund. :yahoo: Winter has been a killer on the bank acct, what with all the farkles and all. I'm thinkin pretty soon I'll be so busy riding I wont have time to be buying anymore farkles.

+1

The more I ride, the less I farkle

This year wasn't too bad. Getting a little bit back, which is nice to put away to spend on small vacations and stuff.

A few years ago, when my wife went into private contracting, she didn't pay any estimated taxes that year. Not one penny. We owed $10 grand. We paid it off over the year, and the penalties etc were VERY minimal. They didn't care as long as we made an effort. The people we dealt with were actually very nice.

Now, she knows, so she pays quarterly, and I overpay on my W4 cuz even though they're making money on my interest, getting a couple thousand back, in one lump sum, is kinda nice.
