I was stopped on my V-Max in NH, the local Kingston cop sat in his car and used the PA to tell me to throw my ignition key out onto the road. He then told me to get off my bike and lay face down on the shoulder with my hands over the back of my helmet. He didn't get out of his cruiser until the keys and I hit the road.
Wow. I assume that you were pulled over for a speeding ticket? I don't know if I would have complied with that kind of BS. That seems a bit over the top. I can see the keys on the ground (so you don't run away) but what's with the face down on the ground crap? Did he then arrest you? If not, then WTF is with the face down?

:eek:fftopic:

I was taking the last ride of the year on my V-Max, and it was fookin cold so I had on my winter leathers. I was riding down Rt. 125 in Kingston (NH) when my radar detector went off, but there was no cop in sight. I checked my speedometer and was shocked to see that I was doing 60 in a 55 mph zone; I can’t remember the last time I was that close to the actual speed limit  Then, way, way off in the distance I saw a cop car coming from the opposite direction with his lights on. The cop was going at least 110 mph in my estimation, he was going so fast that the body of the car was floating. I couldn’t imagine what kind of emergency would cause a local cop to be going that fast. He blew past me so fast that I was left rocking in his wake. I made a silent wish that the cop doesn’t cause a disaster bigger than the one he was going to. A couple of minutes later my radar detector went off again only this time the cop was coming my direction going just as fast as before. I wanted no part of this kind of speed differential so I pulled waaayyyy over to the edge of the shoulder and stopped. I can’t tell you how stunned I was when the cop pulled in behind me :dribble: While my adrenalin level was spiking I was desperately reviewing my recent life trying to remember what I might have done to get the cop’s attention like this.

This is when I got the keys and face down orders. The cop came over and took my keys off the road and took my wallet out of my pocket then walked back to the cruiser leaving me face down on the really cold pavement. After what seemed to be a long time the cop got out of his cruiser and walked over to my V-Max and gave it a very thorough looking over – big air scoops, fat rear tire and bad *** drag racer look. At this point he let me get up and asks if I knew why he stopped me. This was one time I could truthfully say that I had absolutely no idea why he stopped me. The cop told me that two guys in a PSNH truck (Public Service of New Hampshire, the states largest electric utility) had called the police station with their cell phone and reported a red motorcycle going well over 100 mph weaving in and out of traffic and passing lines cars on double yellow lines causing a life threatening situation. I told the cop that there had been a major mistake made someplace because he has the wrong bike and rider. The cop told me that my outfit and motorcycle are an exact match for the complaint and he is sure that he has the correct rider. He also said that he is further validated in stopping me because I had a radar detector on my handlebars and I was using it to enable my reckless driving. Right at that moment I was feeling real ill and developing quite a strong desire to bludgeon a couple of lying *******s in a big yellow truck :grrr: :trinibob:

I told the cop that there was a serious travesty of justice taking place here and asked him how he could take action like this solely on a phone call. I was told that it is a matter of credibility, two guys in a public service vehicle = credibility; leather clad low life on hot-rod motorcycle = no credibility; especially in light of having a radar detector on my hot-rod motorcycle. Once again I told the cop that there was a major mistake being made and asked him what recourse I had in the legal system. The cop said that I had the right to face my accusers in court. He said that the judge would listen to the accusers, the police officer (him) and me, then based on credibility the judge would render the finding.

I guess the cop noticed that I was really shook up and actually started to look at the situation all over again. He said that my having a clean driving record did a lot to help my case, but that radar detector... After talking for an extended length of time the cop finally agreed that there was some kind of error made (maybe). He finally told me that I could go, no ticket, and no written warning. He also said that he is taking my license plate number to the police station and he PROMISED me that he would run my plate every 30 days for the next year and if my number came up I could depend on hearing from him.

I will say that being stopped as the result of someone using a cell phone to call in a complaint was an epiphany event for me and has made a difference in how I ride and drive. In NH, if someone with credibility calls the police and reports a public safety situation the police are obligated to investigate. Don’t be that person dialed in :fie:

It's Alan, Fred. The cop probably just didn't want to look at his face.
Wise guy. The view the cop had was worse than my face, picture a corpulent old guy in leathers with his butt facing up while lying on the road :puke:

Well, since the topic is ******-TARDS that are part of the problem, this is clearly not "off topic".

That is really incredible. I just get a sick feeling in my stomach hearing it. I have been known to heard there are people who pass lines of cars on double yellows and wander into rather high speeds. I'll bet the cell phone totin' soccer Moms all think those people are a menace to society.

Remind me to never wear my leather jacket. Thank god we have hard bags and fairings on our FJRs to give them an air of respectability and make us look a little less like outlaw bikers.

IonBeam,

FWIW...That's total ********. That guy would not have liked my response and there would have been a supervisor at that scene quick. People can complain all they want, but unless we actually see a violation, we cannot charge someone with a crime. The most I would have done was stop you, tell you about the complaint and tell you that if it was you being complained on you, you should adjust your driving. If that guy would have put me on the ground, I woulda freaked the **** out. That was overboard for a reckless driving complaint. And two dipshits in a public service vehicle have no more credibility than Bust on a bender...Sorry dude. Were not all like that.

Shyeah, that's what you get for ridin' one of 'dem dare murdercycles, 'ya hoodlum.....

Holy fookin' crap, Alan, that is as ****** up as a soup-sandwich.

I am not at all surprised that people use their cell phone to report ****** driving. I just don't see that holding up in court unless the cop actually witnesses the behavior.

Same thing happend to me one time in S. Georgia but I was driving a car at 'excessive' speeds ~midnight on a deserted stretch of GA300. Cop lit me up, made me throw my keys out and exit the car, drop to my knees with my hands behind my back. Cant say I blame him being alone on that strecth of road pulling over a car going 110mph very late at night. Unfortunately, I was dressed in dress pants and even had a tie on returning fro a meeting in Atlanta. He called it a felony stop whatever that is.

Funny thing was he and I got shooting the breeze and he ended up writing me a ticket but knocked it down to 10 over. Ended up costing me like ~$140 but it could have been much worse.

I have heard this buzzing around recently THIS is a game. We have heard reports like this that young, bored cell phone armed

punks are finding a target, placing the call and then hanging back to see the results as they drive by, for nothing more than a big sick laugh. What are the LEO's to do? they must assume the call is legit (like 911 hang ups) you just never know. these kids need to understand that the leos chaseing a ******** call may mean not getting to a real call!

Great. Hope they are able to trace back a few of those calls and bust the little *****. Make a public spectacle of sending them to the "pokey" and then see how well it catches on. What is the penalty for filing a false report?

Well, I'd also hope that LEOs would treat a phone call report like any other unsubstantiated complaint: i.e. Take it with a grain of salt.

And even still, a report of a speeding motorcyclist isn't one you'd expect to have to spread eagle on the ground for.
