Okay, so, long story short, I had the front fork setup way too harsh. Readjusting that, and paying attention to my posture, and things are much, much better.
BTW, the book "sport riding techniques" really does have a lot of good information in it. Much of it is in the MSF courses, but it is a really good reference and reinforces proper riding technique.
