Sucks...had that happen to me about 10 years ago. Fortunately, I had a wide paved shoulder to move over to. Passed me about 70 MPH on a two lane highway. I don't know if he ever saw me.

I think nearly every rider with a few years experience has had this kind of close call at least once.

No excuse, but human vision is poor at perception of oncoming motion, which is exacerbated by the motorcycle's small visual 'footprint', so it's possible the cager didn't see the motorcycle until it was too late to pull back behind the truck. Regardless, the driver should be penalized for driving without care & attention.

In that situation, there appeared to be very little traffic, so I do believe I would have pulled a U-turn and caught up with the cage in order to obtain the plate number

I may not have been a typically polite Canuck if a confrontation ensued...

So what should the penalty be for: "driving without care & attention" in Canada?

Five apologies and a hail Mary?

Fred, just a little thick with the Canadian humour...

The driver was an ***** and the biker may have been lucky. Or like any good rider, he made his own luck by remaining vigilant and reacting to a bad situation in an appropriate manner. The sad fact is that this is far from an unusual occurrence! I doubt that I go a year (probably not much more than a month) between such "Holy ****" moments on the bike. Usually someone else's fault but I admit to having screwed up at one time or another; usually due to momentary lack of care and attention. They're out to get you!

The motorcyclist was a lot more calm and forgiving than I would have been.

A U turn and some *** kicking would be in order, Eh.

I know, driver total jackwad, but really, I'm with Dave. Bet we've all had tighter squeezes--freeze the vid just before the pass at about 29 seconds in (sorry, you'll have to watch the mattress ad again first). He had at least a full car width. Good to catch one of those on camera though. Nice if they can ID the guy.

Now run out and get yourself some nice bright aux lights, Ryan. I recommend Clearwaters.

I'm afraid my first thought was, "Does that guy ever lube his chain?"

Seriously!

What's the issue here? Cars pull out and do strange stuff all the time.

Somehow, here on this Forum, we(meaning y'all) act like it's an issue.

Sorry, I just don't get it.

BTW, all the Clearwaters in the world wouldn't have prevented this. What this guy needed was some really loud horns.

JSNS

You betcha!
