The only farkles to grace a new-to-me feej out in the garage are bar risers (all set on those - brudas up the road will get my $) and a top box.

The question being what size box to get? I do a lot of bike camping so storage is a premium, but not something that would look like a heli-pad sticking off the back of the bike. I'm thinking Givi E52, but it might prove to be just too big.

Consensus of best all-around box size to consider?

I've got an E52 and love it! 2 helmets with plenty of room!

Well... Two replies and it's still on track, Far be it for me to screw this one up. Awfull easy with the heading posted though.

To early fer dot and the nut has been behaving really well so.. ?

I have the Yami top box and find its size and styling to be a good balance IMO. I find the Givi boxes a more efficient use of the space occupied. But for me, there is something about the Givi boxes that makes them look a bit too aftermarket.

But then again, I didn't have to buy the Yami box straight out. It was on the bike when I purchased it used.

I put a Hepco-Becker topcase on my '06. It will hold 2 full face helmets or half a small dead body. It's well built with a solid rack made for the FJR. It's easy to remove with the key. I'll look up purchase info if your interested. It is large but I wouldn't call it a helipad.

Mine came with the Yamaha box, it takes my laptop so commuting means no more backpacks but there's no way it would take 2 full face helemets...not even one and a half...next time I go camping, I figure I'll take the bike and the wife can follow along in the van...if she can keep up :D

I got the Givi 46 and love it....... but if I had it to do over would go with the 52.
+1 I got the V46 because the Givi did not offer a color matched lid for the E52 in '05. I can fit two full face helmets in the V46 by laying them on their sides. That leaves a little room on top of them for gloves and stuff, but not much more.

If you're getting the top box to haul as much stuff as possible, you better go with the GIVI E52. If looks and cosmetics is at the top of the list and storage not so much, then go with the Yammie Box. Price better not be a factor with the Yammie Box either. Go to University Motors to make your purchase of either of these.

Me, I chose the Yammie Box. It looks great, functions great, wish I had more room at times, but doesn't matter what size, you'll fill it up and want more room anyway.

I drove and looked at the 46 which would be colore matched and the 52, I chose the 52, if two up room for both helmets in the case. if solo I can fit my gear and helmet in it if I chose to leave the side cases off.

no top case

One more reason to consider the V46 is Fred's super bright brake light farkle. These are a set of very bright LEDs which fit behind the lenses of the V46 and are very bright tail lights and brake lights. The light kit that Givi sells is pretty poor by comparison.

Color-matched Givi E460 on my wife's '04:

Love this case. Paint is a perfect match and the quality of the reflectors and trim are right at home on the feej.

I've got the V46 with auxilliary brake lights. I think the 46 is a perfect size for my needs: I leave it on all the time because it perfectly fits my computer bag during the commute, along with extra gear such as dress shoes and rain gear. Also, when parked, I stow my helmet and gloves in there. It's now one of the farkles I could never live without once having experienced it. Jb

This is a smaller box I got on ebay for $57.00. It comes with a full comliment of lights lock and comes in various colors. I chose it as an interum box until I can get a color matched Givi.

Having a V46 with Fred H. LED array installed, I wouldn't go with anything else, unless Fred had a light kit for the E52. The V46 is very stable, unless heavily loaded, and even then good up to about 130, from what I hear from other guys.

I have the Givi E52 which I had colour matched for my 04....Givi themselves offer a light kit for the 52....I also have the optional back rest & rack on mine.....but I only use it for trips....no telling when the extra room can come in handy.....but that's my opinion :blum: ....(& that & a $1.25 will buy you a cup of coffee)....
