What is there fun or interesting to do in the Sac area on the Friday after Thanksgiving? And don't say shopping. My daughter is staying with her cousins in Elk Grove on Thanksgiving night, so wifey and I have some free time before we pick her up around lunchtime Friday. So....breakfast places? Cool places to explore?

Last year we stayed in Old Town, and it was dead the next morning.

remember... the locals don't often hit the tourist spots... but...

you might consider...

the ryde hotel on the river...

or... the bridges on the river restaurant....

lastly... did you mean to say "Old Sac" when you said "Old Town"??

i might hesitate, then, to mention the delta king....

still.... good luck...

Yeah I got my nomenclature wrong...it was Old Sac. We stayed at the Delta King last year. Kinda neat place, but once was enough. We looked into the Ryde, and they are shut down for Thanksgiving. Nice place, just the kind of atmosphere we're looking for. I'll take a look at Bridges on the River.

Thanks, Dave.

Don.

It isn't right to mention Michael's place without a picture...

All of Sacramento is mostly dead the next morning, but:

-- Great breakfasts at Tower Cafe on Broadway at Land Park Drive. (Cornmeal pancakes with blueberries are one favorite.)

-- Etorre's on Fair Oaks Boulevard between Howe and Fulton Aves. is great for breakfast too, and it's also a bakery with wonderful pastries.

-- Fox and Goose at 10th and R streets is just about gold standard for breakfast.

From one who lives just east of Sac -- for Thanksgiving -- we're gettin' out of town !!!

Hycle, Dave Mig and FlyingJ all make good suggestions. We've tried all those eateries, you can't go wrong.

After breakfast....what are YOUR interests?

If the Railroad Museum isn't your "cup-of-tea" and Old Sac is dead, how about Sutter's Fort? That should be good for a couple of hours and it's near Business 80/99 South so it'd be a quick trip down to Elk Grove.

Uhm....you could park and walk around the Capitol grounds and Rose Garden. The building might even be open, though it is a holiday and the state representatives will be home.

If you were on the bike I'd suggest riding down river on Hwy 16 (or a couple of interesting side roads I could tell you about).

Cow town ain't got **** to offer. and before anyone challenges me on that topic, please know I spent too many years in that town and pretty much wore every neighborhood out. College and early career moved a lot so lived in many different areas.

Spend 30minutes to 1.5hours in the car and get up into the foothills and see some great fall colors, nice towns, better air and put sacotomatoes and the lame valley town in the rear view mirror as soon as possible. Trust me.

Oh, but then again there is the Jiffy Burger at Fanny Anne's Saloon and there is Zelda's, the best chicago style Pie within 1,784miles ....and there is Madmike2 ......but take those three things out of the equation and that town ain't worth a ****.

Oak Park..William Land Park..Mack road.. must see places while in Sacramento..also Meadowview road is beautiful this time of the year!
My goodness. What classy comments. Especially yours HuskyRider.

You know, in order to **** on something, the only tool you really need, ...is an *******.

Being a rail buff, I always enjoy the railroad museum in Old Town. Just stay out of North Sac.....Matt
Wow, after seeing S. Sac, I would've thought the nicer part must've been N. Sac.

Old Sac is really cool Labor Day weekend, not sure about the rest of the time. We really liked the rail museum.

The capitol building is a good tour. You'd never think this state is short of money looking at that building. They had free copies of the West Coast Leaf in the news rack in the cafeteria. We couldn't believe they were giving away papers that promote smoking pot in the state capitol. Only in California!

Overall we thought it was a good city to visit, and might go back next Labor Day. I'd like to see Sutter's Fort if we go back.

It's pretty easy to knock a place, even Reno. Or Roseville. But since the thread was asking for some help, I was thinking helpful comments would be more in order. Sacramento isn't a tourist destination, but like anyplace else, it has its charm. And some great riding nearby in any direction. For breakfast, I'm with Flying Junior. For sightseeing, well, a walk through Capitol Park is pleasant, or even through the old City Cemetery on Broadway, for some historic interest--probably much more than Sutter's Fort, IMO (Sutter's buried there, too). Since it looks like you only have the morning, either of those would get you through till lunch. Enjoy.
