Did you happen to find Hurricane Mountain Rd? (Intervale, NH) May want to leave Mrs BG behind for that one- unless you want a few pokes to the ribs. If you have time seek out Dixville and Grafton notches. Both sweet rides. Evans notch and Bear Notch(off the Kangamangus) both fun also. I alspo enjoy Rt 16 north from Jackson to Mt Washington. Beautiful area up there- you can't go wrong!
Enjoy!
We had lunch in Dixville! Little cafe right across from the high school.

Mrs. BG and I went for a little ride and . . . decided to stay here tomorrow. We were going to start heading home tomorrow with my dad and his buddy, but have decided to hang out here for another day and night. It's only 835 miles to home. Easy to do in 2 days.

Dunno for sure where we'll go or what we'll do, but with the scenery around here, we can't go wrong going in any direction!

When I spoke with BikerGeek99 today, I intentionally did NOT suggest Hurricane Mtn Rd. Their group has I think four Harleys and since the road is so extreme I didn't know if it would be safe for those who may not be experienced in that kind of riding.

I think it would be ok going one way, from the Maine side, but from the NH side there are a couple of blind curves that intimidate even myself. They are steep and tight with a severe crown in the road. Going down thru them is ok but going up with a passenger can be a bit spooky (spooky is a Yankee technical term!).

The rest of our group has departed.

So, since Mrs. BG and I are spending today in the area, Hurricane Mountain Road is on the list. We'll take pictures.

Also on the agenda is Mt. Washington (not feeling very adventurous, so I think we'll take the shuttle; go ahead and call me a wuss, I don't care), the site of Old Man Of The Mountain, Kancamagus Hwy, Bear Notch, and wherever else the front tire leads us.

I'd like to ride up and join you but I've got cords showing on my rear tire. New tires arrived last night and I'm trying to get them installed today or tomorrow.

Take Hurricane Mt. Rd seriously, this is the only road that my pillion has *ever* chosen to hang on instead of take pictures.

Since you have only one shot at Mt. Washington I think you will get more out of the trip up by taking the shuttle. If you ever have a second chance (tomorrow? ;) ) it is an experience on a motorcycle.

Rt. 93 that goes past The Old Man passes through Franconia Notch, you will really like this ride.

Hi, Alan!

Get your tire mounted today and meet us for dinner tonight, perhaps?

ALRIGHT ALREADY! We're headed that way in a few minutes.

Doubt we do much tomorrow other than start the ride home.

I'll be keeping an eye out for Franconia Notch. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, ride up from N Conway through Carter Notch to Twin Mountain, then down Rt 3 to (and thru) Franconia notch. Beautiful sweeping roads through some great mountain scenery.

Hopefully, your "going home" route also includes some riding thru Vermont. As good as (my home state of) New Hampshire is, the roads are actually better for motorcycling in the Green Mountain state. IMO. The mountain range is a bit older in geological terms (or so I've been told), so they are more "rounded" looking and less craggy, but the roadways themselves are generally smoother with fewer frost heaves and such.

And we're back....

Hurricane Mountain Road . . . what a goat path! If it were dirt, HaulinAshe would LOVE it! Wow! Mrs. BG is in agreement with Mrs. Ionbeam - she held on instead of taking pictures!

Did the carriage thing for Mt. Washington. The paved parts wouldn't have been an issue. The gravel? OK going up, but I'm not so sure I woulda been OK going down. Packed dirt (plenty of dust, too) and decent sized loose rocks. Not my thing. But the skies were clear once we got up there and I think we got some decent pictures.

The stretch of 3 / 93 was quite nice.

We looked for the site of the Old Man but didn't really find it. Oh, well.

Had lunch at a diner in Lincoln.

Kancamagus was terrific! Only had to pass a pickup, 3 Harleys and a Cavalier. Most of the passes were legal, too.

Bear Notch was quite nice as well, except for the road conditions. We stopped for pictures and the bugs damn near swarmed us, the little bastages.

Bought more trash & trinkets in town and mailed them to ourselves.

But the best part of the day, if not the entire trip - we were . . . nah, that'll just have to wait for the Ride Report.

yeah, that pretty river that runs along the Kank is calle the swift river. Crystal clear, and, as the name infers, swift moving mountain stream. Just perfect for those god damn awful freeking black flies!!! They are what is shown under the definition of "driving me buggy".

Sounds like a nice day.

It sure was. This whole trip has been terrific. I'm looking forward to putting the Ride Report together.

Now it's time to say goodbye. This trip is pretty much done for us.

We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow - we're looking at about a 650 mile ride to spend the evening with some old biker friends.

Thanks to all of you for checking in on us and offering suggestions.

Chriss - The Axeman - thanks again for taking time from your business to show us around. What an incredibly cool tour!

Charlie, et. al - thanks to you all for suggesting places to go, sights to see, routes to ride. You guys ALL ROCK!!

If you ever come to Columbus (why in God's name you'd ever come to Columbus is beyond me, but what the hell do I know?), send me a PM. Who knows? Maybe an unfoseen geological event will transform Columbus to a riding destination. Or cows could start to fly, you just never know. Southestern Ohio, on the other hand, has some dandy roads....

As MacArthur said, "I shall return."

As Ah-nuhld said, "I'll be bahk."

As BG said, "They have good beers there."

Ride safe, and thanks again,

BG and Mrs. BG

Thanks, Fred. Appreciate it.

We are home. 646 miles yesterday, just over 200 today.

A ride report is coming soon...

Thanks again, everyone. Mrs. BG and I truly appreciate it.

Ride safe.

BG
