Admins, move post where needed...

So, I've been reading about Tyler's accident, and how much of her current agony was due to being 'de-panced'. Keep this thread true, perverts, this is about pain, and agony, suffering, and 'de-brading' of skin. If you've never had a raspberry from sliding into second base, or lost skin skateboarding, bicycling, or whatever, then you just don't know the pleasure of having scabs sticking to sheets overnight, of having puss beyond belief ooze out into bandages that have to be redressed daily, do I make my point or should I provide pix to make you truly sick?

So then, my question is this - how many of you zipper up the two piece suit (Aero, CyclePort, etc) for the 'extra safety margin'?

Up to this point, I have not, and I wear CyclePort gear, 'zipperable'.

After reading about Tyler's wreck, and subsequent pain/agony of skin de-brading, (I can only imagine that term is the same as what I went through, 3x, of where the take a clean scrub brush and 'abrade' the infected crap from the 'good meat', then wait a day and do it all over with twice the 'enthusiasm'...

So, Boyz n Gurlz, any believers in 1-piece suits yet?

I'm going to try, for the first time, mananna, work commute, to zipper the upper and lowers and together. Will it be worth it? I honestly don't know.

What do you think?

I have tried, with reasonable success, to get in the habit of zipping my two-piece gear together. I believe that any steps taken to keep your body protected in a crash is worthwhile.

I have tourmaster pants and joe rocket coats and they zip opposite directions. Think I'm gonna fix that.

I have the BMW ladies' Belice suit that zips. I've often THOUGHT about zipping jacket to pants but just "never bothered". After Tyler's incident, I'm going to make myself get into the habit. And hope I never have to find out if it's worth it.

Good post dcarver.

Have had a really hard time with Tyler's crash, and the 'what if's' it brought to vivid life for me and my kids. Especially for me as the head of a single parent household, as is our precious Tyler.

My gear has the ability to zip, and to date I haven't, but then I haven't really ridden since I heard of her accident.

I will be a "zipper" from now on.

I have seen degloving injuries on pets thru my employment, and it's not pretty. I try not imagine what it is like on a human. I need to start sleeping well again...

My little Tourmaster's just have a eight or nine inch long zipper. I'm not sure how well they'll hold compared to a full zip all the way around ones waist. Even if it did zip all the way around, how would it hold up compared to a one piece?

I also truly believe leather is best, bar none.

This brings up some great reflections on ATGATT.

Get well soon Tyler.

Valid concern for sure...I always keep my 2-piece 'stich zipped together. I bought the 2-piece Roadcrafter as it has a bit more room for layers in the winter. I have complete confidence in the zipper, it's industrial heavy duty. Never heard of one coming apart...

My jacket and pants do not zip. Lately I've been thinking about ordering a different jacket that DOES zip together with my CyclePort.

Yep, Tyler's injuries have certainly brought many of these thoughts to the forefront.

I've only worn a one piece Aerostich for the last 13 years. Even as an LD rider, there are many occasions where I'm standing around, hot, not wanting to take my suit off and scare the general public (I wear LD Comfort or UnderArmor underneath: very form=fitting) or sitting in a restuarant with the top hanging around my waist. I've been contemplating a two-piece set up for my next purchase. Perhaps the inconvienence is worth living with.

Wayne would probably modify yours to zip together.

Ever since I got my Cycleport gear, part of the pre-ride routine has been to zip them together. Now I know why....

An interesting topic and certainly worth discussion, and thinking about. I have a two-piece leather suit with full zipper, which makes it resemble a one-piece. First class protection but it hangs in the garage, while I wear a more comfortable and convenient two-piece set. All of my jackets are longer length, but Tyler's injuries are making me think again.

For us girls, a two piece outfit is a lot more practical for any decent length of ride. You guys are blessed with 'easy access' for pit-stops.

Cycleport. I always zip em together. To me, riding with them unzipped is like riding without a seat belt. Neither of them feels natural anymore.

Hi Don,
I only wear 1 piece suits now. When it's to hot for my stich, (like now) I wear my Olympia 1 piece stealth suit which offers OK protection and keeps me cool.

Same here with the 'stich. I have a 2 piece Dianese suit I wear in the warm months and I always zip together. Feels naked if I don't. In addition, I always wear a a back protector under both suits even thought they have built in options too.

different manufacturers and different length zippers. sewed the mate that comes with the pants/jacket together and always zip, always. it's only at the back but it's together.

Interesting topic Mr Carver, and well worth discussing.

I've been wearing a 1-pce 'stich since 1998, and despite the occasional discomfort, I can't see EVER going to a 2-pce.

When I was debating buying it, I was humming and hawing over one-piece vs two-piece, and had a fella in the BMW dealership in Ventura tell me (quite emphatically, as I recall) that the one piece was the way to go, because you'd never not wear the pants, and the jacket would never ride up on you. As he said, "you gotta save your ***... that's where the skin grafts come from"

I've got Joe Rocket mesh gear (zips in the back). Used to zip, got lazy and stopped zipping, began zipping again (lesson learned).

Always have zipped. As far as I am concerned, it's part of ATGATT. Tyler's "incident" merely reinforces that. (I really hate to think what she's going through, hope she mends sooner rather than later.)

Mind you, in typical UK weather, you don't want them unzipped because of the wet and draughts round your nether regions :cold:
