I wish gear had tail bone armor...and wearing a cup might not be a bad idea (geez, my head is a swimmin')

I've bruised the ole tail bone and it wasn't pretty and didn't feel good for quite awhile

Lotsa of activities involve the tail bone - walking, getting up from furniture, cough/sneeze,

but taking a crap was the worse
I have worn the Bohn gear for years, ie the Adventure pants with the tail-bone armor included. Tight fitting as in no bulk to cause the gear to move around in a fall or slide. I like to wear them when I feel like wearing jeans usually when riding the Harley or shorter rides on the FJR. I recently ordered a pair of the Adventure shorts which has the same armor setup. Tight fitting again, giving support that the LD riders are well aware of and these too have the tail-bone pad. I wear the shorts with just the tail-bone pad under the Cycle Port gear which has all the other armor needed. Works out well especially in warm to hot weather riding. One could order the tail-bone armor seperately and sew a pocket on their current gear if you wanted. This is the only riding gear I've found that includes this piece of important equipment IMO.Bohn Gear

PM. <>< ;)
PM,

new to me...wearing armor under unarmored clothes

is the Bohn armor really hot to wear in the summer

I deal with 100+ temps 110+ heat index, and 101% humidity climate every summer for days on end.

Lots hotter at Interstate level on the slab at 2pm.

Any gear that's hot or traps heat isn't applicable to summer heat in the deep south.

Just wondering

Thanx

Mike

Well, Cycleport DOES have tailbone armor available. It's called "sacrum" armor, is an option, and is available in either the new upgrade quad armor or the standard tri armor (at least in the kevlar air mesh pants).

I got the upgraded quad armor in my new Cycleport jacket and pants, except that I ordered the sacrum armor in tri armor. I figured the tri armor would be softer (for comfort sitting on it) and Wayne confirmed that was so. I also got the optional hip padding once he convinced me that it would be something I would hardly notice. He was right, of course. So . . . you can get tailbone armor in the Cycleport air mesh pants.

I also have Draggin Jeans that I used to wear when it was hot. They're a lot hotter than regular jeans, and do have the kevlar reinforcements. But there really is no armor to protect against shock vis the protection they do provide against abrasion. I also have the tight fitting Forcefield stretch under garment (pants) that I wear with moto gear on my dual sport on fire roads. It's too hot here with my Draggin Jeans to combine them, though I wold agree with PM's combination as a good protective combination. But it's the discomfort of sitting on the tailbone armor in the Forcefield stretch garment while on my KLR (****** OEM seat anyway) that had me asking Wayne of Cycleport about using tri armor for my Cycleport sacrum armor.

I'm so happy with the Cycleport that I think I may have made obsolete almost all other gear I have, especially in warm seasons. :) Watch for a used gear sale.

Mike, the Bohn gear comes in a mesh version that is worn under your street clothes as well and is designed for "hot" weather. I have not tried the mesh but their gear is quality and durable. I don't use the Cycle Port gear all the time so this setup works for me and I now have the shorts that give support that the LD boys like and can also use the same armor.

And thanks Rich for the info on the Cycle Port gear. I didn't know the rear armor existed and Wayne didn't mention it when I purchased my gear from him. He said at the time when I bought the mesh pants they could be ordered up with the hip pads which I got but no mention was made of the tail-bone armor or I would have bought that as well. And the tail piece is not shown on his website that I can find. The quality and protection of the Cycle Port gear is un-surpassed though and also good to know two types of armor are now offered. PM. <>< ;)

i wear a two pice set of leathers, italian made "prexport" they have a full zip and i always have them completely zipped. many years ago had a jacket ride up a bit as i closely inspected our local road surface, it smarts. i like two piece because if i stop for lunch or a rest and it gets a bit warm i can just unzip jacket from pants and remove jacket.

Thanks Don for starting the thread. I was wondering how to start one on the topic because there are some important lessons to be learned from Tyler's crash.

I recently got the cycleport air mesh ultra II jacket and pants but didn't get the zip (I think something on the website says you don't need it with the 3/4 length jacket). Does anybody know if the zips can be retrofitted?

Contact Wayne Boyer at Cycleport. I'm pretty sure nearly any requested alteration can be done. If he can alter it so that it fits to your satisfaction (as he says when you order), surely he can retrofit zippers. I also know that after collecting mm2's paramedic modified Air Mesh Ultra II jacket (scissor work on the side of the road), the jacket was sent to Wayne and he reconstructed it -- can't tell it was ever cut up.

I have a Joe Rocket mesh jacket and First Gear airpants. Pants have the zipper but jacket only has zipper in the back but they will not match up. I may have to invest in a 1st Gear jacket that will zip up.

I think Tyler's accident has affected me and others on the forum more than any other. My brother-in-law went down last year and his his injuries were of the broken bone variety and did not bother me as much even though he was on crutches for 9 months. It is terrible when someone like Tyler, who is so great has to go through this type of thing. Fortunaltely she is the type of person who will overcome all the trials that are ahead of her.

That's reassuring to know! And when you DON'T wear pants?

Pictures?
I'm comfortable with Wheaties being the only pant-less forum member <Link> (well, the only photographed pant-less forum member)

Barb joined this forum on the same day that thread was posted. ... Coincidence?
OMG, I suddenly feel so........so......dirty

It's the only way I am going to get to Alaska and back.

What are you doing up this late, cruising for Old Michael?

Yeah, I'm the good looking one -- he gets my leftovers and rejects, sad to say.

I didn't read that as "doing Old Michael's cruising and helping a brother out," I read it as "Where's OM!?!?!? Where's OM??!?!"

Sometimes, things go over Shiney's head like a 747 over LAX. Some say it's part of his charm.... :dntknw:
