Hey folks, we thought it was about time we put out an update for the WCR. Even though the WCR traffic on the Forum has gone quiet, it doesn't mean we haven't been busy underwater like our famous icon, the Great Canadian Beaver.

So here's what has been happening:

1. Barb has taken the title "Rallymaster" although she keeps insisting that I call her"Mistress". I'm not sure what that's about but friends have advised me to be careful.

2. Yours Truly, El Cajone will be the rally "Co-ordinator". It's been explained to me this means I will be the beast behind the beauty.

3. The web site should be up and available for registration in about a week or so. We're just doing some fine tuning now, killing bugs etc., and trying to figure out how much we're going to gouge everybody. The web master is FJRguy who did such a great job in setting up the CFR web site last year (this year too).

4. The rally site is at a beautiful resort in Parksville on the central east coast of Vancouver Island. We have block-booked a bunch of rooms (actually self-contained suites with a beer fridge, stove, microwave, coffee-makers etc.). You will be given a discount code at registration which you can use when you book your rooms directly with the resort. The site is not quite as convenient to local services as the CFR was in Nakusp last year but it is very private. We have a section of the compound pretty much to ourselves with a nice-sized, secure parking lot for our exclusive use. It's about a 5 minute walk down the bluff to the beach.

5. The rally date will be September 9 to 12, 2010.

So, that's all the news that's fit to report, Feejers. Stay tuned.

I'm sure *Mistress* is providing outstanding directions... ;) Can hardly wait for the official site!

Jorge, this's a shocking news flash to me! When did our barb demote herself from Dominatrix to Mistress? This'd be like a General stepping back to being a Colonel!

Been drinking again Richard?

EDIT: Found a cool tourism website re: the Parksville area. Nice you tube vids on trails, waterfalls, galleries and events.

"...trails, waterfalls, galleries and events." What in the hell, Miguel! Are you and SkooterG both going together to a day spa to get your hair braided and nails done, while the rest of us are out riding our FJR's? Jesu Cristo, Que Lastima! Sometimes Old Michael and I just do not know what in the world we are going to do with you!

Yeah!

Barb, what the hell kinda rally are you running here?

Sounds good! FJRGuy and myself will be hauling *** back from Mexico (3 Flags) to make this... might not be there by Thursday, but we'll be there.

On a technical note... any of our American brethren can tell me what the limit is on bringing tequila across the border from Mexico into the States?

You can bring back as much tequila across the border from Mexico into the States as your FJR can carry - except for Arizona, we have a 1 liter limit; but you have to pay duties on the amount over one liter; which is around 5%. But they may think you are an importer if you are bringing back more than a dozen liters! Always maintain they are for personal use, they just look at my red nose and peg me for an alcoholic!

Where are you crossing into Estados Unidos at? The slick deal that we Arizonans now do is use the United Free Trade Stores; primarily because we have a State Law limiting us to 1 liter; I think to encourage sales at the UFTS stores on our side of the border. There is one at Lukeville / Sonoita crossing. Four liters of tequila is cheaper there, than 1 liter duty free and then paying the duty on the other three, if you are crossing into California, New Mexico or Texas. I'll try to find you a link on this. Griff, please do note my caution on bringing more than 1 liter into Arizona.

https://www.dutyfreeamericas.com/retail_loc...cfm?stateAbr=AZ Here you go, Griff! Arizona's duty free stores on the US border, East to West: Douglas, Nogales and Lukeville.

Well, that's great news that Kat is considering coming along. Both WFO and 1st Annual Western CA Rally, that is really good to hear. Old Michael said he got some strange last week, his finger broke throught the toilet paper; that's pretty damn strange, indeed!

Muchos gracias Senor Beemerdon! Not sure where we're going to cross coming back, likely into AZ as 3 Flags ends in Rocky Point/Puerto Penasco. Gonna be a long haul back up to BC, but it'll be worth it. Not likely not bringing more than a liter each, but who knows?

You probably already know this, but for "making time" north, note that it may be both faster (75mph speed limits vis 55mph) and much less expensive to reel off some of that northward distance through Idaho rather than through Oregon.

Does that apply to foreign residents as well?

Edit: I can find no mention about foreign residents on the CBP website. For US residents it is "One liter of alcohol and one case of beer may be imported per person every 30 days." It appears the 1 litre limit (duty/tax free) is into any state except Texas... where it is ZERO!

Thanks for the tip! We'll keep that in mind when we plot our route.

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=125601 FJRGuy - Jeff, SkooterG and I will personally check on this during our border crossings in April. Skooty, Papa Chuy and eight others will be crossing at Nogales on April 9; we will ask about Canadian Citizens and we will double check for Griff that the rules have not changed since our last crossing in October. The United States and Mexico border rules, from both the Mexican and US Governments are constantly in flux, and always fluid.

I, and four others, cross back into Estados Unidos at Sonoita / Lukeville on April 13; I will ask there also, because believe it or not, sometimes you get different answers!

SkooterG and four others will be crossing back on April 19 in California; either Tecate, Mexicali Truck Gate or Los Algodones; he will check their responses at these posts.

I know it's muy loco, but these border crossings are so wierd, you never know. Coming back from San Miguel de Allende in Central Mexico 10 years ago, Rena and I were traveling with a British couple from London. They got nothing but a hassle from the US Authorities at Laredo, Texas. So we rode west to Eagle Pass, where they got a little grief from the Mexican Authorities, but they were allowed to clear the Mexican side. And then, the US Authorities at this location had no issues whatsoever!!!

Edit: Jeff, just saw your edit to your post regarding Texas. This just goes to show how different every border crossing can be, that limit was not in effect in Texas a decade ago!
