Try setting your netbook to basic VGA first. Do the Win10 upgrade. It should work. Once upgraded, then do a scan for Windows updates, once done, then try resetting the video to a higher rez.

I've been swapping back and forth between W7 and W10 for a couple of months by making disk images using Clonezilla, a LINUX live CD. It takes about 15 minutes to install one version over the other. I don't dual boot them. I have turned off a couple of features that collect data on W10 and have had no problems with it. W10 is about 15% more compact, probably because it's newer and has had fewer updates. W7 had a pretty good Bluetooth GUI that I haven't been able to find in W10. All of my software transported successfully otherwise.

I went back to Windows 10, now that I have a little more downtime. Reinstalled programs that wouldn't run after W10 and that seemed to fix the issues.

The one and only issue after some time using Win 10 on this Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro which came with Win 8.1 is that I notice the laptop doesn't wake back up onto the log in screen as quickly as it did when I was on Win 8.1 - it was almost instantaneous on Win 8.1, but on Win 10, it seems to get hung up for 3-4 seconds more often that not.

It is a minor annoyance, but if I am in a hurry to log in, it still rubs me the wrong way. :)

My recent update to 10.11 El Capitan went without a hitch.
Lack of Aperture, among other things, is a deal-killer for me. Mavericks still does all I require.
My understanding is that Aperture has been functionally integrated into Photo. I can't confirm this from personal experience, I don't use it - I don't like the way Apple likes to organise my pictures (just my preference, many people seem to like it).
I'm running El Capitan now, it's a little different, took some effort to make my Mac act as a server (thank goodness for a son who's something of an IT expert), but no other issues. A few minor dislikes, a few minor improvements from my perspective. Overall, happy with it.

My big deal was El Cap and Photoshop CS5.5. The easy thing would be to upgrade to the current Photoshop but Adobe forces you into a subscription model which I am refusing to do. It took a while to dig up the info on how to get it to work with El Cap because it needs the older JRE6 to work. Previous versions fail with a note that a newer version is running but what's really happening is that it's bumping its head on the new El Cap locks on the root. Nearly all the tips on fixing it deal with the developers' beta so don't work. I finally found a new dmg for JRE6 that installs with El Cap and everything was copacetic.

I "upgraded" from W7 to W10 and only had a couple of "issues". One was that Microsoft Edge doesn't clean up after itself like IE 11 does. No biggie as CCleaner works in W10. What really got to me is that my HP Photosmart 385 printer didn't work in W10 like it does in W7. In W7 I can use my HP as a card reader and with a USB cable I can transfer files from the card to my computer. In W10 all I can do is print photos from my camera card. W10 does "see" the 385 as a card reader nor can I send files from my computer to my 385 to print. Went back to W7 and now all is well. I may try W10 again after a while to see if they got my "issue" fixed.

I upgraded from windows 8 so I guess I would have to get a copy of 7. My gf computer still has 7 and I prefer it.

And its been over a month.

The old Internet Explorer is still available in Windows 10. Type Internet Explorer in the search area and you can create a shortcut to it and continue using it.

I'm a Chrome user, but some people still prefer IE as that's all they've ever used. It's still available in Windows 10 for those who still feel comfortable with it.

At my last job, I had IE, Firefox and Chrome installed on the same laptop. Different web apps (HR, Expenses, etc) would require different browsers, depending on the vendors. Now, with Win 10 I have the Edge browser and Firefox. I haven't installed Chrome yet, but may at some point. So far, I have had a relatively positive experience with Win 10. Of course, I don't have much in the way of third-party programs installed (no Photoshop, no games, etc). Everything I do have seems to work just fine so far.

Yeah I absolutely hate the slow IE for damn near everything - but there are some Govt websites and some business sites that won't allow anything but IE to work properly....

I don't understand why would anyone even consider using Internet Exploder over the far better options out there ?
It's become known as "the tyranny of the default". Most people never change the default stuff on anything. It's why home routers still use the factory admin credentials. It's also why the EU force MS to include multiple browsers and ask users when first installing which one they want.

You are so right...

Well I had to take the plunge on a new computer for work and it comes with Win10, so I will be forcing myself to switch from 7. Haven't had time to mess with it yet, but I'm sure it'll be a pretty easy transition.

I'm also looking at replacing my MAC air with the new upcoming Surface Book so I'll have another machine running 10 also.

I have always been a PC guy and just can't wrap my head around the way apple does stuff. I've tried for 4 years now with this thing and the programs for it. Just don't get it. I do however love the Mac hardware, totally Love the magnetic power chord.... they make great stuff but the PC world it's catching up finally.

I had found a way to get Autocad ADT2005 to work with Windows 7, but that was trick installation, so I was not optimistic it would work after the upgrade to Windows 10.

As expected my old version Autocad did not work at all with Windows 10, so I'm back to Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.
