You guys are lucky in the States, look at this:

YES ( Yamaha Extended Service ) $ 390.00 US for 36 months

YPP ( Yamaha Protection Plan ) $ 1139.00 Cnd for 36 months

When I asked Yamaha bout the prices differeces, here is there answer:

Good afternoon!

It is impossible to simply answer this type of inquiry regarding pricing between US and Canadian products or YES and YPP.

Volume purchasing (300 million vs. 32 million), and different associated costs of operating in Canada vs. the USA. Such dilemmas are shared by Yamaha and other importers and manufacturers.

We believe our prices are fair and appropriate. I assure you we try and make our products and accessories as competitive as possible!

Regards,

Scott

And in a previous email he said that US warranty will not be honor in Canada

Pierre;

That comparison requires one more piece of information . . . You can pay $380 and buy a Y.E.S. program that extends the warranty by 4 years (total of 5) and the Canadian program can only be had for 3 years (total of 4).

I paid $850 plus taxes for the 36 month YPP.

Unless you buy a bike from the US distribution channel you can't buy Y.E.S. - and they won't do warranty service on a US machine in the United States that carries a foreign plate.

Yes, we get hosed up North with the warranty. I made it 2 1/2 years without one so far.

I look after mine plus I will be too busy to ride the stink out of it this fall so it will easily make it to 3 years without problems.

Leave it to Yamaha to make me out as a liar . . . .

I was in my dealer's shop Friday and the big advertising banner says YPP (Canadian version of YES) is available for 4 years. I asked. The staff said I was wrong and the sign was wrong. But some of the paper handouts (not all, there were 2 versions) clearly said 4 years, So they hauled out the price book and lo and behold, since March 26 the YPP can be had in a 48 month version for an extra few hundred dollars - total of $1280 plus taxes is the lower 'time of delivery price' if memory serves.

Too much of a difference IMO to raise a stink about extending mine (hopefully I won't regret that decision - though I guess I have until spring and the expiry of the initial warranty to change things and try to convince YamaCanada if I change my mind).

Pierre: The retail price for a 3yr plan on the fjr is actually 991.15 cdn., if purchased at the point of sale. Your 1,139 cdn is in effect if u buy after that, but within the 1st year factory warranty period. :assassin: STILL BLOODY EXPENSIVE !!!!!!!!!

Iuggest to Yamaha to lower their price on the canadian warranty, this way maybe they will sell more...

Notice that you are from Montreal, not to far from you. You are the first FJR guys on this forum close to me.

The high cost may have something to do with the fact that Canada can only get the detuned french motors, I heard that was demanded by Quebec. :p :p :p :p :p

You can suggest - if they do, then I, for one will want a refund of the difference or a no charge upgrade to 4 years - it opens a serious 'can of worms' to mess with the formula - they won't do it.

Note that the dealer markup on extended warranties is 100%. That's how the likes of D&H can sell them for less than $400 and still make some money.

I'm in the West Island . . . . there are at the very least 2 other '06 models in the area (20, if you believe the bullsh*t from the sales manager at Chicoine - my bike didn't come from there even though he is the closest to my home - I'll never buy another machine from them), though I haven't seen any on the road. There aren't all that many in Canada. Mine is s/n 112. I'm guessing there are about 300 in total.

That'd be about what my dealer said was available in Canada, about 1/10th of the US market.

I doubt mamayama will do anything about the price of the YPP, so it comes down to which dealers will offer a break on the price. I'm thinking about a YPP, so my plan is to e-mail a bunch of dealers and ask what they're willing to do.

I bought my 05 FJR in Montreal. When I bought it, i negociated a 4 year exteded waranty with it for a total of 5 years. The extended warranty wasn't from Yamaha but from a third party. It costed me an extra 850$ CAN. Dont have the details right now since I'm at work but can e-mail details if anyone is interested. :)
