It was correct in the first place. I'm of normal weight and proportions. It's not a fairing that offers a normal rider the level of protection normally found on sport tourers. Teens or girly-men (diminutive ones) might fare better.

After all the discussion here, I had to move mine just to have done it. Heat management wise, no different. It simply essentially makes the fairing just under a half inch wider, which covers a little bit more knee/thigh from direct wind. Since the fairing on this bike is too shallow/narrow to provide us fat **** adults wind coverage for the lower body ala ST/RT bikes, it's a positive thing. I like the panels better out. If I was in Yuma, I might miss that tiny bit of extra airflow. YMMV.
Fixed it for ya......
Depends what you mean by "normal".

By definition, "I" am normal. Or perhaps I'm a 72-year-old teenager? (Some of my riding might suggest that ...)

Anyway, the fairings work well enough for me, even the standard screen I find good for 10 months in the year. Tried the Yamaha touring screen, works too well; if it's cold and wet and if I set it to put my head in still air, my (pin-locked) visor tends to mist up.

However, I can't really tell the difference in the adjustable thingies, certainly not enough to put up with grovelling on the ground to change them or to have the uglier appearance (although the GenIII isn't as ugly with them out as the GenII).
