Anybody want to ride to Kingsport for the IBR check-in on Sunday, July 5? Warchild says scoring starts at 5 pm. Route is nothing special; Interstate all the way: I-85 to I-26 to IBR HQ.

I'll be leaving from Deal's Gap early the morning of the 5th. Plan to be in Kingsport in plenty of time to see the riders rolling in.

Correction - three of us will be leaving the Gap.

To supplement CanadianFJR's link, the Kingsport location is the Marriott Meadowview Conference Center, 1901 Meadowview Parkway. Looks like a swanky place to be hosting 100 grizzled bikers, but -- like my grandmother used to say -- contrast makes the world spin around.

Scoring starts at 5, so I don't expect many will arrive before 3 pm. Penalties for late arrival start at 8 pm.

<edit> I have been informed that competitors will be in the "toasted" part of the rally, and may start arriving around noon.

The ride up could be a blast. Not so sure about the ride home. What time do you think you'll leave Kingsport to head home?

If I wasn't getting my 2004 ready to give to my son the following week, I would maybe be up for it...

Send a pm to Griff. He lives in Greer,SC now and may be up for it...even though he is now in the Black Hills. He's got one of them thar IBA plates, so he must be one of the world's toughest riders.

(from me, one of the World's Wussiest Widers)

1) all Interstate to get 'er done -- current plan is I-85 to I-26 because the current plan includes only me

2) arrival in Kingsport between 3 and 3:30 -- see post 5

3) departure a little after 8 pm -- which is later than prudent, but that's the check-in deadline

Will be wearing a yellow short sleeve FJRForum T-shirt (https://www.zazzle.com/slapnpop) and looking for CandianFJR.

Jim and I will be a day early and a dollar short. We'll be rolling through the area headed north on the 4th. :/

2) arrival in Kingsport at 1 pm to 2 pm -- see post 5

3) departure when you're ready -- I'll probably hang around until a little after 8 pm, which is later than prudent

Bummer. Maybe I can make it to Sudbury on my dream trip to Happy Valley and Goose Bay. (I hear the Trans-Labrador is completely paved now.)

Oops! Wasn't clear. One of the World's Wussiest Widers is me. I ride like a grandma and not ashamed of it.

Kingsport weather on Sunday: 85 / 64 scattered thundershowers. Should be nice, unless "scattered" is where you are.

I won't be staying until 8, but as of right now, I'm planning on heading that way on Sunday. Slingshot, engage.

There will be plenty of folk around. I was just told by one of the scorers not to expect to finish scoring much before midnight. The riders have two hours after check-in to get their paperwork together and scoring may well take 30 mins per rider

Although most of them will head off for food and bed as soon as they are scored, there will be a lot of people around willing to chat for hours :)

Especially if that person is SkooterG.

Damn, if the IBR was a "talk yer head off" contest they would just give that man the trophy and retire it.
