Just met a super tenure rider at

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site 81 Carl Sandburg Lane

Flat Rock, NC

Coordinates: 35.2715 -82.4472

9a-5p

Carl Sandburg provided a popular voice for the American people of the twentieth century and still speaks to us through his words, songs and the beauty and serenity of Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.

Take a picture of the home.

Came from

Got home around 9:15 safe and sound. A bit of rain around Ashville. Thanks for organizing this Uncle Hud. Nice to meet some new riders in the area. Very cool to see the real Iron Butt riders. We'll have to get some RTEs or sumpin like that going.

Good to meet you, griff, and all the others. Met so many good folks had a hard time keeping up. Poor Shemp had to introduce himself twice (sorry Shemp). Hud- Well done sir. Next time a room and a couple of beers are in order. I left just as it was about to start happening.

Home; dry, and comfy. Only a touch of precip on both legs of the trip; coming home wasn't so much drizzle as we were driving through Smoky Mountain clouds. The same grey, white, and charcoal ones that looked ethereal clinging to the mountainsides as the sun dimmed into darkness.

'Twas great to meet a bunch of folks, and put faces to names. Had five FJRs in the convoy as we pulled in, and I forced everyone to stand still for the obligatory photo -- which will not get uploaded tonight because I'm headed to bed.

564 miles at 42.7 miles per gallon. Got to love a motorbike that lights up the "ECO" lamp when you're in cruise control at 85 mph. Saving the world a little at a time.

PS: TWIGG, I saw your bike, it was NOT crashed, but I think Mr. Hatcher is still drinking the Bavarian Kool-Aid.

Allen has nearly a quarter of a million miles on his K12. I doubt he will change now but I hope he enjoys his time on the loan bike.

Good to meet all! Thanks Hud for putting it together! I had probably the shortest distance to travel and just walked in the door. Lol. Glad to see everyone made it back. Had a great ride back, half interstate and half twisty 74A to Lake Lure. Got out of Kingsport just in time, looked like the bucket opened up behind me in the mirrors. Hope Intech didn't get any of it, and has a nice safe dry ride back. Good to see Shemp again too! Also good to meet you Rick/NeTNFJR!

I rolled in the barn at 1800. Had a great ride. Went straight to the snake to start out. Had plenty of wet roads and a little rain just south of Richmond. However, I was about 15 miles from home and the sky opened up! I got drenched. After listening to some of the competitors talking about six hours of that I just smiled and rode through it. Being at the checkpoint to great the riders was an awesome experience. The best was when Tony(101stpathfinder) rolled up and smiled and pointed at me when he recognized me. I walked up and gave him a pat on the back and shook his hand. He went and parked his bike and then went into the hotel. that was the last I saw of him! 911 miles round trip.

Poor Shemp.....well Shemp started getting into the local on tap and was catching a nice little buzzzzzzzz!! It was meant to be guys.....you all ganged up and used me for bear bait starting at Sams Gap NC/TN line. Thanks to all that came!!! WE Need to do this more often!!! WE all LIVE plenty close enough!!

Enjoyed it!!

Having the ability to convert to shorts and boat shoes upon arrival is sheer brilliance. I was envious. For those unaware, Hud has his entire riding kit modified and improved to incorporate total velcro tear-away functionality. From ATG to AT the beach takes mere seconds. It is rumored that, after a late-night viewing of Magic Mike, he was inspired to modify his (riding) gear. I can only hope subsequent prototypes and a possible group buy is in our future.

Wouldn't dream of leaving out anybody!

The photo was taken within 3 minutes after arrival, and it was all I could do to keep the herd from stampeding to the hotel.

All of us are FNG's compared to y'all (except Griff -- a last-minute addition) and I'm thinking seniority wrangles the crowd together for photo documentation .... especially if he's carrying a big camera around his neck ... ?

Well, you have a point, but Eric was on the phone with me. He should have told me of this happening. Damn cops are all the same. BTW, at that time you weren't even sure if any of us really existed!
