What did you do to your FJR today?

First ride and first performance award of the year. That's 2 years in a row for tickets on the first ride. Gotta behave myself for a while now. The bad part is I didn't even realize I was speeding (71 in a 45). He wrote me up for 61.

Just out of curiosity, was that clocked? Not much radar on the back roads in PA.

Seems to be a common thread here with me and a few of my friends. 68 in a 35 zone in the middle of nowhere. Wrote us up for 64.

Clocked, the ticket says Enradd as the device. Only the State Police can use radar in PA.

Maybe some helpful info:

1.That I need to ask the officer to present the Calibration Certificate for the ENRADD device.

2.Verify that it was calibrated within the last 60 days.

3.Verify that it was calibrated by a approved calibration agency.

I found that two officers are required to appear at the hearing. How can I find written documentation that confirms that two officers are required to operate the ENRADD device?

The ENRADD technology holes and shortcomings:
* Unit is unable to to work on a wide roads (i.e. four lanes highways either two ways in each direction or four lanes in one direction) due to the limitation on maximum distance between sensors thus uncapable of distiguishing with absolute accuracy if second set of sensors was actually triggered by the same car that triggered the first set of sensors (i.e. first set of sensors was triggered by the car moving in one direction and the second sent was triggered by the car moving in opposite direction).
* ENRADD unit has to transmit the speed-reading data to the police car over the radio frequency. Usually ENRADD unit requires two police cars to operate: one reading the unit data and second police car is actually making a traffic stop. Two cops have to show-up at the trial.

Does the officer need to be certified to operate the ENRADD device? (NO)

Well it looks like I can add PA to my list of get through states and spend as little $$$$ as possible. That's now 3 states I will not spend time or money in if at all possible.

Been there. I hate "getting off on the wrong foot" at the beginning of riding season...makes you paranoid for awhile.

I seriously wish the police around here would start ticketing the cruisers with the obnoxiously loud exhaust. We live three houses down from a stop sign at the bottom of a small hill. In the summer months not a half hour will go by without some asshat on a Harley with straight pipes making a racket. And this is in a nice residential neighborhood, not a main roadway. There is no way that those bikes pass the state mandated 96 dB exhaust noise threshold. I really can't believe they actually think that crap sounds good.

Spot on answer 'Zilla.. And I like your rant Fred. wtf is with open pipes? I followed a guy in this morning who was riding a metric cruiser with open pipes. It sounded like total shit. Can't see how that enhances one's riding experience.

One big difference between New Mexico and PA is that you only have 45 MPH limits in the outskirts of cities where it makes some sense. Every rural secondary road in PA is marked at 45 MPH, with very few segments at 55. Since only the State Police can use radar in PA, the local police all use VASCAR, ENRADD or old fashioned clocking and observation. The State Police like the hide behind a bridge tactic here, but usually if you're paying attention, the locals are avoidable except for what we'd call a hidden speed trap.

Thank you! I do live on a 45 hwy and jerks are all the time passing in excess of 70 with 2 different side streets intersecting. I had a Toyota in my yard one time, mailbox has been taken out at least 3 times, at least 3 times I've gone to see if the driver who just put his vehicle in the 8 ft deep ditch is ok, and I've picked up auto body parts more than I care to remember. State boys like to sit up the hill on one side, I stop and shoot the breeze when walking the dogs. City LEO lives up the hill on the other side, sometimes he just parks his patrol car at the end of his driveway and gives the clowns a panic attack when they pass by. I've invited both to use my driveway to issue awards any time they'd like.

Well it wasn't today but just the other day.....I installed a couple scores I got off the boards here. Installed my hwy pegs bought off a forum member......I found out on the trip home from Daytona that my knees are getting old......Also got some bag covers from a forum member but I've got to get them painted first. I ordered the Cerulean Silver from ColorRite last week and it arrived yesterday! I'm gonna paint my Yammy trunk that is 03 color right now.....also purchased from a forum member! Installed a cig lighter outlet in the plastics on the right side.....that was a bit scary....always is when you are making holes in a perfectly good body part but it came out great and is very useful! Also installed my new to me (also bought off the boards) CalSci windscreen! Been a great spring purchasing off the boards and doing installs! What else are ya'll newer model owners gonna sell off your Gen 1's!!?? LOL

Getting easier to avoid those awards all the time. 'Specially now that the constables around here are all driving Ford Exploders. I can just imagine driving one of those 150 mph.

Haha...I got a brand new Explorer Interceptor last August. It's all-wheel-drive and at 130+, it feels more stable than my FJR. This little grocery getter will haul ass and handles really well, due to the electronics. The traction control isn't crazy intrusive, but when we get on it hard, it will apply brake to the outside wheel, limit power to a wheel, and use the transmission to assist braking. If I'm hauling ass and brake hard, and then punch it, I have to let off and then re-engage, because it will not come out of that forced lower gear. We're not sure if that's a flaw or if they're supposed to do that. Haha...6 speed tranny, and super fast from 60-120.
I love mine because even though it is fully marked, it has interior lights, and people will fly by me, not realizing it's a cop car. We quickly came to find that there is no "out running" one. They are fast enough and handle well enough that bad guys can't out run them.

So...Be careful boys and girls because I use it all: RADAR, Laser, Stop-watch (VASSCAR), and good old fashioned pacing. Pacing and stop-watch are my favorite because there's no notice, no matter how well a vehicle is equipped. All there is is lights in the window. Haha...

Oh, yeah...I've gotten my share of tickets too. Unfortunately I deserved all of them except one, and a court date fixed that. That's the risk I take when I drive/ride too dammed fast. Also, those that ride with me know, I'll open it up though the turns or out on a highway. When I come into towns or where there's houses, I stay within 5mph of the limit. If I hit someone's kid, I don't know what I'd do.

I was wondering how those Explorer's were working out. Here we went with all Tahoe's for patrol and marked Impala's for SRO's. For unmarked we were using unmarked Impala's. I haven't been on the road in 20 years so I've got the unmarked Impala. It is a total POS....of course it's free so I'm not complaining but I would be pissed as a citizen/consumer to own one. Our Sheriff is fed up with the Impala's so we are going strictly Tahoes and Chargers now. I'm a short timer with only a year and a half left so I will retire with my Impala. I did drive the Tahoe and it's surprisingly quite agile and quick for such a big vehicle. It was a blast to drive and handled great. The Charger's are a hoot too. With the Impala I could literally stop a car every time I move! People blow by me constantly not realizing what it is. Since the demise of the Crown Vic I think folks just don't know what to look for anymore or don't care.

In this current climate HotRod ...keep your head on a swivel and kudo's to you for still being out there....when I see the news each day I don't miss being on the road; I'll stay inside pushing paper around where I won't end up in a video on facebook or youtube. Be careful it's not the same world out there like when I started!

Hear, Hear! I recognized years ago that most roadways are in front of people's homes. My bike goes the speed limit (maybe +5) in residential areas, because I'd be yelling and throwing shit if people used my street as a racetrack. Highways are a different matter, and the Interstate is a racetrack in Hotlanta.
