Sooooooooooooooooooooooo.......................I rode her to work today.......................again.........................almost hit a dead skunk. 62 gear shifts counted.....work changed my venue....next week I start working six days a week, twelve hours a day. Wife says I'm going to be a ***** for the next couple weeks. ......probably. She'll have wine ready for me when I get home. Every once in a while....she can be a good wife.

Changed the oil & filter. Didn't spill any- was lucky enough to squeeze into the "Funnels are Your Friend" instructional seminar 2 weekends ago at a local auto parts place. They suck at parts and tools that move but for stationary bits they're pretty good. The part I liked best was that we started with a little funnel and a big hole and practiced over and over and over with progressively bigger funnels and smaller holes.

Also cleaned/lubed the side stand pivot bolt/bushing/springs. It was a ***** holding it up with no side stand. Old lady didn't want to help. Ain't she gonna be surprised when she finds out I used her car for a prop. I'll prolly get a big ol' toothless sloppy smooch for that one!

I'm actually going to ride it today. It will be the third time this year. Seems like all the riding is two up so the wing is the choice.

Rode 3 1/2 hrs to Amish country and back for a total of 180 miles in the rain to see if my raingear was satisfactory.

Made a stop at a cheese "factory", antique store, and a bakery. Then had dinner at Mrs.Yoders.

Came home dry.

New plugs have been installed and one was slightly darker than the rest which looked good. It may be time to do a valve check. It will have to wait until I get back from EOM. Now to go do the TBS and see what's up with that. As an FYI there are about 25 to 30 K on this set of plugs.

I will report in later,

Dave

Rode by Mrs. Yoders today on my way back from Coshocton.

Glad you rode her, even if it might be the last ride on her.

It's not on the block yet but I did meet a young couple yesterday that want it. I told them what would be taken off but they still want it except for maybe the alternative tire on the back.

TBS complete and the bike is all buttoned up again ready for another ride to work. Only a couple minor adjustments needed. Someday I will get around to doing the total and complete TBS. Thursday night I start pulling her apart again for some new rubber and possibly a lower link. The bike needs to get rapped up by the Sunday and ready for EOM.

NOTHING; however, I did the 50 hour service on our jet ski. It was over at 57.

I'll say this: WHAT THE ****??!!

The Yamaha Oil filter is $25, so I found the Mobil 1 equivalent for $12. It needed new plugs. The OEM NGKs are an order only item, so no one had them. I decided to try Irridiums, which were $14.49 each. Jeeze.

I had to buy an oil pump to remove the used oil through the dipstick. That was a 1.5 hour fight. The POS pump I got from Harbor Freight kept collapsing the hose, so I got what looked like an identical pump from Autozone, as no one else had one. Turns out the Autozone version has thicker hoses, so it worked better, but was still a pain in the ***. I had to jury rig the deal, but I finally got it empty.

Then the oil filter. That thing was on so tight, I couldn't move it. Went and bought a strap wrench pack. Piece of **** wrenches had rubber straps that slipped, so back to Autozone. Got a metal standard wrench and finally got it loose. I was prepared for a little oil leakage, but ************. I'd bet a cup of oil went down to the bottom of the hull. That took a half hour to get cleaned up.

It took 4 quarts of oil, when the manual says 3.1, but the dip stick doesn't lie. This Mobile 1 Filter is a hair bigger too, so whatever.

The plugs were a breeze, but I've done those before. A 10 minute job. Hooked up water and it ran smooth as ever. I had some vibration and power loss that looks like it was the OEM plugs. I took pics, but the ceramic was slightly discolored on 3 of them from what I'm guessing is heat. All the VXR forums talk about the plugs being a big deal...I guess when an 1800cc motor makes 180bhp, it's gotta fire right.

So, for next time, I have to invest in a proper oil pump. That was just stupid. Then I think I'm going to back the trailer onto a ramp on the left side to tilt the ski. Maybe that will reduce the oil leakage from the filter. I ******* hate oil filters.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know...Today was a pain in the ***.

In all seriousness, if you can get it there, knock a large screwdriver through the side of the filter and out of the other side. You have all the leverage in the world. If access is limited, you may have to repeat after the first movement.

Oh yes, put something underneath to collect the inevitable oil leaking out of the holes you've made. But you (now

) know that.

NOT GOOD, Intermittent downshifting issues on the way to work this AM. Mostly 2'nd and 1'st gear. Tap it down nothing there, Tap it down several more times and eventually it went in. It feels like nothings there. No click, nothing. Bike running fine otherwise. Upshift no problems at all. I will search the forum later.

If it is intermittent, I'm willing to wager that a dismantle/clean/lube (of the shifter) will fix it. There is enough goo in there to keep the spring from allowing it to ratchet back for the next gear. When tightening the main pivot, make sure you don't get it too tight. Good luck!
