Moved where? Is there an "Oil" section of the forum?
Yes, it's affectionally become known as the Never-Ending-Pointless-Recurring-Thread and where most oil threads go to live. I figure being a member for 9 months you'd have seen this conversation come up many times including this recent thread. Truly though, a valiant effort trying to search first.

Have fun with the variety of opinions.

....and IMHO ticking doesn't have anything to do with oil choice.

It's the valve seal tolerances and/or materials....and is supposedly fixed in the '06. I went with Yamaha dino in my '05 just to reduce the chance of any debate with Yamaha over warranty if mine were to become a ticker.
I would have seen that other thread you referred to had it been in the Technical section where it logically should have been. But seeing as how I don't go looking to see if more sections have been added to the forum, I have this logical side of my brain that tells me to look for technical posts in the technical section.

But thanks anyway.

That's funny. I have this logical side of my brain too. And it tells me to look for oil posts in "Oil, tires, octane, and other items that endlessly get discussed and rarely resolved."

We seem to have a logical Or here.

But....not all NEPRT's are technical. The hierachy is NEPRT.....then technical!!

You are not the only one that had to learn this the hard way.....why do you think most of my posts end up in the NEPRT section ??

Maybe just drop the word "pointless" from the heading title and all would be well. Quite often they aren't pointless, redundant sometimes, but for the most part worth the look. (they do provide multiple and easy access to "rag" on somebody; right there it makes them not pointless)

And anyone who could construe jestal as "pointless" is sorely lack. I'll give you "never ending", butt not pointless...

Jestal's individual posts are definitely an exception. I think he'd be a great candidate to do an FAQ on the subject of oil and have PM'ed him to consider it. Details to follow.

I'm very active on several motocycle/auto forums. Here is my take on this issue. I don't go to the main forum section and look to see what sections exist after the first couple of times I visit a new forum. I bookmark the ones that I have an interest in, and I check them daily - usually several times a day. I don't go looking to see if there is a section specific to every single issue I'm interested in.

This forum is not a very big forum. I don't really think we need it to be so complicated that we have to go looking for new sections. Oil is a "technical" issue. Does it really need it's own place to hide? Maybe it would be better to make those repeat topics that seem to annoy moderators so much as "stickies" at the top of the appropriate section.

Let's be realistic here - there must be a reason these issues get repeated so often, and the reason is that there will always (hopefully) be new forum members who are looking for that information and have not received their double-secret decoder ring on how these forums work.

Thanks for letting me rant a little. I really am trying to keep my thoughts construtive.

Let me make one other suggestion. I don't know if this forum software allows it or not, but look at this link:

https://forums.corvetteforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=74

At the top left, under "Community" you see links to other sections of the forum that are specific to "C6" Corvettes. Could we have something like this on this forum with links to sections that are specific to FJR topics? That also makes it more obvious to find new sections that might be added later, like when we need a section specifically for FJR crush washers.

Very interesting that you cite the Corvette forum. It has no less than 59 subject areas. This board has less than half at 24. That must suck if you have more than one model of corvette.

Also, it has a Tech/Performance thread, but a separate Forced Induction/Nitrous. Boy, why isn't the latter under Tech/Peformance? That just seems logical.

Different strokes for different forums I guess.

Maybe it would be better to make those repeat topics that seem to annoy moderators so much as "stickies" at the top of the appropriate section.
Good idea! Already invited a board member I think would be a good author to write an FAQ. I hope we will get something together soon on this.

I bookmark the ones that I have an interest in, and I check them daily
Fine, but you might miss something doing it this way. You're the first person I've heard of doing this and doubt we're going to change the board for you on this one.

Not so much. This software is different. If we get to 6 generations of the FJR (we're currently at 2) we might look into separating, but rather think keeping the community as one is more important right now.

Finally, please remember I'm just one of the four admins. I am taking in your comments for sure and I bet they are to. We continue to work on things on this board and I think it keeps getting better.

The Corvette forum has so many members I've lost track - I think something like 35,000. If you track the posts in just the C6 "General" section, you will be blown away at how many posts they get. Literally thousands a day just in that one section. I can excuse the different sections because of the large number of posts.

Also, the "forced induction" etc is pretty specific. Only a very small number of forum members have any intrerest in such modicifications. I make no apologies for any inconsistencies you may think I have in my logic given that they have so many members and the number of topics that are discussed every day are much more diverse. And for the record, they actually allow the "oil" threads to remain in the technical section.

I hope you take my posts in the spirit in which I am writing them - as being constructive. I don't expect you to change for me. But I'm not sure how you know how members actually use the forum. You killed the post I made this morning where I asked you to allow other members to offer their comments. How do you think the typical member checks the forum for new information and/or to get answers to questons?

You killed the post I made this morning where I asked you to allow other members to offer their comments.

Not true, sir....Here it is
Once again, I think I make my point. I never know where to find anything on this forum.

By the way, another reason I never knew this section exists is that it is not even considered an FJR topic. I could care less about sections that are not FJR related. It never even occured to me to look under "General Motorcycle Forums" to inquire about what oil to use in my FJR.

Dude! I think you're making the point that you're lazy.

I was thinking you might have said instead, "Whoops. Didn't see that. Glad my free speech isn't being stifled here.."

But, instead you assumed we toasted something you said because we didn't like it, didn't bother to do your homework to realize it was still here, and then bash us even more with a fresh harangue of a topic that's been thoroughly explained between this thread and the other one that's been handed to you on a platter.

Get used to having to navigate or you're going to miss things!

Or, if you want to get into a pissing match about it, read #7 of the board guidelines.

So, how about some simple answers.
simple to see why the thread was moved.

I have this logical side of my brain that tells me to look for technical posts in the technical section.
Technical or not, if it's recurring, then it ends up in the recurring forum.

Once again, I think I make my point. I never know where to find anything on this forum.

Perhaps we've finally found one of those people who thinks the world should accommodate their preferences even when they are an army of one?

Deja Vu?
Have I professed my love to you lately GunMD? You would think as few members as we apparently have--I'd remember such a thread.

Boy, looking on that one I seemed a lot more patient that I seem to have become as of late today. I am now wondering why I even tried to explain anything here.

I'm done with this thread.

Nice way to make an entrance.

Boards are different. This is the way this one is run. coming into someone's house and telling them they are wrong or it is painted the wrong color or that their doors are on backwards...

only to discover that they are left handed or that they are color blind - or that they just have a different sense of style probably wont make you friends with them.

A suggestion (now... it is just a suggestion - don't take it too harshly) -

why don't you look around awhile before you make a bunch of suggestions on what is wrong. Add some "content" valuable or otherwise to the information in the forum and then folks will perhaps listen to what you have to say or take as constructive criticism.

you also might find that in your "My Assistant" on the bar just above this - that you can search for your last 10 posts - and then follow any responses - and also discover where they are. That is if the "View New Posts" is too much of a bother.

There are lots of ways to navigate this forum and lots of FAQ's to read and so on.

By the way -

I have used Mobile 1 in most every bike I've ever owned. Wet or Dry clutch. My engines have always looked great and never had a motor related problem. Perhaps Mobile 1 causes electrical problems, though - 'cause I've had plenty of those. Had a flat tire that I'm pretty sure was because I ran over a Yamalube can in the street - so I might blame Yamalube for that one.

I KNOW FOR A FACT that if you swallow Castrol synthetic blend - and light your hair on fire and run around in the dark - that people will look at you funny in the morning.

And I preached the gospel of "kinder and gentler". And this is what Iggy gets. Sorry, Iggy.

"thanks for inviting me into your house, but I don't like where you put the restroom so I am just gonna piss on your welcome mat..."
