Certainly we learn online that everyone has their own opinion. I like a twisty road as much as the next guy, but blasting 450 miles from Jackpot to Las Vegas has never made me sleepy or bored. The thing I love about the FJR is it will flat haul *** through a whole tank of gas if you have the desire and nerve to do it. If I just wanted to carve corners I'd just get a sportbike. Riding above the ton is a lot of things, but it isn't boring and doesn't get old....in my opinion, of course.

Idahoo almost trumps Montana, 'cept Idaho doesn't have a Beartooth or a Jellystone. That ride on 93 south of Missoula to Stanley is pretty darn good (flatter, straighter and more boring than most). The Idaho po-po gave me an award that thankfully didn't count in Ontario. I'll be back out there soon and seeing more of the west, all the way down into Cali and back up. Lots on the bucket list including more WV, AR, CO, UT, etc., etc. It's all good, I don't care where. Florida is not on my list..........

But if you lived in that area and rode on those scenic roads all the time, wouldn't you become somewhat jaded?
IMO, absolutely correct. Folks think I'm nuts for wanting to head east once in a while to the flat lands of our coastal regions but sometimes I get really tired of riding the same ole, same ole roads in the hills and the mountains. Been doing it for nearly 30 yrs now and there aren't many left from Bluefield WV to Murphy NC I haven't been on. I don't mean to sound negative, I consider myself extremely lucky to have within 3 hrs either way both the ocean and the mountains. I understand completely people's excitement about coming here from afar and riding and that's exactly why as time and money permits I tend to stray farther and farther from home to ride. This year on to Kentucky with hopefully a foray into Indiana. Never been to either state before.....
Come on over to IN! The southern part of our state has some nice open roads and twisties...just gotta wait until the snow and ice are fine in the Spring. If your serious about visiting, PM me and I'll contact a couple other fjr riders do we can meet and guide you around!
Thanks but it won't be all that. Prolly just a ride across state lines, a few pics-for-proof, lunch and back southbound. Just to say I've been there and enjoy the ride.

A road like that puts me to sleep!!
I did have to laugh when I read this. Let's see--you have a strip of pavement heading off for several miles with an unobstructed sight line, you have the whole thing to yourself, NO risk of cops, NO risk of a big animal jumping out, NO crossroads, and you're on a 145HP / 155MPH motorcycle. And you would go to sleep. Man, you need to learn how to twist your right hand!
Just going fast in a straight line is kind of like Jet Skiing. It seems fun at first but then it gets old really quickly.

Exactly!!
What!? That's not how I ride a jetski. I make my own twisties in the water...in fact one time when my ex was on the back with me she flew off and was really pissed. Maybe that is why she did not want to ride with me on my bike when I bought one again after 20+ years of not having one.

+1! If your getting bored riding a jet ski, you need to borrow some big boy undies and learn how to ride the thing. We have a Yamaha VXR1800. It has 180 horses and hits 70mph very quickly. I only wish my FJR pulled like that thing does. I have scared myself more than once. I was go. A post a picture but this useless iPad won't cooperate. Gawd I HATE Apple ****!

Don't get pulled over again there, or your offense just may rise from the dead!

The Westerly States surely win, I guess Kali, but by.. "just a slight bit of a favor, mate!"

I'd have said Massachusetts since there's just so much that's beautiful and the hilltowns are amazing, plus the coast and the Cape, so there's a wide range of riding and places to visit, but the state is so small so it's limited.

Cali would have to take it, then, since it's basically a bigger Massachusetts with less history.

I don't know about the jet ski thing cuz I've never ridden one, but I was agreeing to getting bored just riding fast on a straight road.
Yeah boring! And so I don't get accused of posting young little hotties, here's an old bag that still isn't all that much punishment to hang with. I just like to ride I guess ;)

She looks warm.

Warmth is the best state to be in right now.

If things don't change, I may need to relocate.....

edit:

I just checked my favorite weather site, and it looks like Hawaii is the best state to ride in right now.

I wonder tho, do you get dizzy going 'round an 'round?

State of Jefferson:

I've been all over the US and will say that California does it for me. The size and endless variety of roads and decent weather can't be beat. When I lived in Oregon we had a lot of great places to ride, but it was always a treat to take a long weekend to Red Bluff, Fortuna and back. I'd stay out SFO and LAX. Just too many people. But lots of great riding in between. Even boring-*** 395 has an awesome chain of mountains to stare at. And beer. Sooooo much good beer in California.

West Virginia would be a close second, but it lacks variety and the open scenic vistas of California.

Another vote for California. I have been actively trying to explore California for the last 7 or 8 years and Im still blown away at how many places I havent been

It's certainly the most diverse. You can be in a lush forest and quite literally be in the flats of the desert in 45 minutes.... so you'd better be prepared for 30 degrees all the way past 100 for a day ride.

I'll admit that outright, it's not as pretty as other states (especially after having ridden Colorado, Wyoming, Utah.... good god) BUT - what difference does it make if you cant be out riding?

we have 365 days a year if we want and you never have to worry about traffic, ever because of the lane splitting laws. All you really have to worry about is where are you going to be getting oil and tires on sale....

Plus we have highway 1

Hwy 33 (which I saw another vote for and it's an astonishingly good road....)

Seqioa National Park - just to name one

and probably the best part about California is that there are tons of little local "hidden" spot like the Carrizo Plain which is just a few hours from LA - there are tons of places like this

and if you're into dirt, we have some of the best desert racers in the world!
