Wheatonfjr (Mark Erving) is stranded in Murphy, NC with a bike that shows a code 11 fault. I'm not sure what this is, but he called me and said that the bike won't start or run. He broke down on Highway 64 today after hosting his awesome camping weekend in Cruso. If anyone has any suggestions on his problem, he can be reached at the Days Inn in Murphy, NC. Phone is 828-837-8030 room 119. He doesn't have internet access, so calling him is the best way of reaching him. I'll watch the forum for any other suggestions. His towing service says the closes Yamaha dealer is in Chattanooga, TN, which would cost $400. He is thinking of renting a U-haul to get the bike back to Chicago, rather than taking it some place to fix. Maybe there is a quick fix for this code 11?

That's on the other side of NC from me, but I betcha there are many FJR riders within an hour or two from him who might help with a trailer of sumpin. Some dealers in Charlotte are open on Monday also unlike most other motorcycle dealers (what's up with being closed on Monday anyway). There has got to be a dealer close to Murphy than that I would think.

I spoke with Mark. Gave him the code results and contact info for the dealership in Hayesville, only a few miles from him.

He's going to rent a U-haul and tote the bike home. His wife needs him home before Wed.

Something he might try that worked for me when my AE wouldn't start because of code SHIFT_26. Turn the key on then off. Then back on and hit the starter quickly before the instrument sweep finishes. For some reason unknown to me, that defeated the code interlock, or whatever you would call it. Even if that works, it is still be questionable as to whether it should be ridden. Yamaha would say that if it won't start because of a code, then you should not try a work around. YMMV.

Damn, no good deed goes unpunished. Mark, hope you make it home safe n' sound n' warm n'dry in the Uuue-Haul.
Jeff - good on yah bud - you rock, you are a good man.

Mark called me this morning. His "truck queen" is in the U-Haul and he driving back to Wheaton today. Then the sluething begins to figger out what the problem is. Thanks for your help Jeff. The most important thing was for Mark to get home by Wednesday.

Man that sucks for Mark. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with this:

Seriously, it was great to meet Mark. Glad to hear that he is on his way home. Too bad it is not on the bike. Glad to know that so far there were only three bike related issues and no accidents with the group. Looking forward to next year's event!

I didn't want to be the first to bring that up, lol. I'm sure it's not connected in any way.......maybe.

Crap, I just spotted this today and am about 50 miles west of Murphy off Hwy. 64 in Tennessee. There's also a Yamaha dealer about 25 miles west of me in Cleveland that might have helped. Wish I'd checked the board more thoroughly or somebody could have contacted me as I think my contact info is listed somewhere on this website.

Mark; As a former resident of Elmhurst/Darien/Villa Park I'm a day late and a dollar short. Hope you made it back ok, sorry I couldn't help you. Take my contact info with you next time you're in the area.

Thanks everybody....Ashe, Bluebullet, griff... everybody for the help. I'm home now, if my wife didn't have the upcoming surgery tomorrow, I would have been more patient and worked it out with the local dealer...or tried to work out the problem with Ashe's and Bluebullet's help. Everybody was major league helpful to me....not but a few minutes after griff posted I was getting calls from everybody.

You don't know how that feels that you've got people on your side...until your stranded far from home in a motel room.

I am most likely going to offload the bike here at home and try to diagnose it and fix it here...if that doesn't resolve things, I'll throw up my hands and get it over to DuPage Yamaha.

BTW, those guys with their hands up the private parts of my bike are trying to put the headlight boot on the battery side headlight. My right headlight went out and Mike/Powerman gave me his AND installed it. However, my bike must have felt violated and expressed it's frustrations on me on US 64.
