Hey Wheaty I've been keeping an eye on this. I'm hitting the FJ rally in Boone NC (May 12-16) and thought that I might leave a day early and scoot down Sat and join the merryment!

I don't plan on tenting (using KOA kabin in Boone), so I'd looking for a nice (warm?) cabin floor to lay down my sleeping bag on Sat night. :sleepysmiley03: Anyone..., anyone?

People attending this event should know that the BRMC has changed their food services at the camp for the 2010 season. Please see Post #1 for a link to the BRMC website.

Essentially, the camp will have basic groceries for campers to buy and some grilling locations for people to use. But there will NOT be sandwiches or prepared foods as was shown on their link for the 2009 season.

EDIT: UPDATED 5/3/10...PHIL SAYS THEY WILL HAVE MORE STUFF THERE...SEE POST #168!!

THEREFORE: All those attending should be prepared to fix their own meals at one of the grills or at your own campsite if you've brought your own camping stove. The alternative, for people like me who don't bring cooking and campstove gear, will be to visit a local food establishment for their meals.

Please note that there are not individual fire pits for the campers, but one big bonfire area. The campsite mentions that there will be grills in one location that people can use to grill their hotdogs or hamburgers, etc.

A note as well for those that haven't camped before, or if it's been awhile...bring plenty of warm clothing with you so you won't be shivering in your tent at 3am. Don't ask me how I know this.

So in conclusion....this is a CAMPING meet...so ALWAYS BE PREPARED!! :clapping:

Thanks for the heads up on the food Wheaton.

I'm still just bringing coffee, cooker, trail mix bars, and RUM  . That should hold me over until I get to town to get real food.

Coffee! I gotta have coffee in the morning.

I'm sure we'll be fine and find what we need, but I think they are making a big mistake by not having hot food on premises even if they have to let a portable 'roach coach' guy in during meal time.

Greg,

I know Dave (the owner) said they would have coffee and sausage biscuits on Saturday and Sunday mornings. You can email him to see whether they will have anything any of the other mornings...

Cool. That's good enough for me. Thanks.

Can you ask them to make sure we have good weather? :p

This last winter was very hard on the BRP and parts of it are still closed. I happened to pass by the intersection of 80 and the BRP and the northern direction was closed. A few weeks back the 276/ BRP intersection was closed headed south.

Maybe everything will be open by the time of your get together, but I'd make alternative plans to ride other roads should the BRP be closed.

I'd suggest that you check the BRP site as the time for your trip approaches. Hope you guys have a great time in this beautiful part of NC.

Yeah, I think I might mosey on over there myself...

:)

Even though the BRP may still have some problem areas for this meet I40 and the dragon are looking good. Can't wait to have my wife ride the dragon with me. Getting close to the time to make a sacrifice to the weather gods!

Now that right there is a generous offer. Thank you very much. :yahoo:

Regretably, I'm afraid I have to postpone my trip to Cruso for now. I have two kids in school and my wife's job has her recently moved to third trick. Too many obstacles to overcome to allow me to get away for a week in May.

I talked with my oldest son, who would be accompaning me, and we decided to move the trip to June so all is not lost!

Sorry I won't get to meet everyone, I was really looking forward to it.

Everybody please ride safe and have a good time and I'll look forward to next year for the Second Annual Appalacian FJR Camping Meet!

Robert
