Heh, my wife's sleeping bag doesn't compress worth a damn...it's sitting in the garage with a cinch strap around it and it doesn't look much smaller than normal, lol. We're shopping this weekend for some stuff, so maybe we'll find something that'll work better.

She's a bit concerned with the distance, about 340 miles for us, since she's never done more than a few hours at a time. We have stock seats which don't bother me, but I'm not so sure about pillion (perhaps a seat test at the meet will change things). I figure plenty of stops along the way will help her out.

I put on a Corbin seat and we are really happy with it. It combined with proper riding gear have made a huge distance. My wife has done almost 500 miles on one day ride last year. That was without all the gear we will be hauling this time, though.

What time are you heading out? I assume you are going to just hit 40? We will be hitting 40 off of 77. Haven't calculated what exact time that would be, but if it worked we could hook up for the remainder of the trip. there will be three of us. Myself, my brother on his R1200 and Powerman.

Yea, I'm figuring a slab run straight across on 40. That'd be cool to meet up and run the remainder into camp, but it's too early to determine what time we'll be leaving. My wife's job has her working across US and China time, so she tends to sleep late...I'm hoping for an early start though. She might get tasked with a business trip before then and miss the trip (in which case I will definitely leave early), but so far we're looking good.

I had a Corbin on my old FZ6 and enjoyed it; however, I plan to play the field with a seat this time around. I definitely want a better seat at some point, but the budget's just not there at the moment for the committee to approve.

I gave my old air mattress a test last night. By morning it had gone flat. I know I have a few more of them around here somewhere. I hope my kids didn't take all the good ones.

I went with the self inflating pads from Cabelas. Can't wait to see what the configuration is going to look like on the feej with camping gear for two. should be interesting! Is is Thursday yet?

OK, I found the good air mattress. I had rolled it up inside my sleeping bag along with a spare blanket. I must have been preparing for a late fall camping trip last year that didn't happen. :dntknw:

I just have a couple minor things to do to my bike and I'll be ready to go. :yahoo:

I have been using this waterproof comression sack Clicky for my sleeping bag. I use the medium for a Coleman 20degree mummy bag. Compresses to about the size of a 1 gallon pitcher, and has been tested in many days of rain.

Hopefully, I can still make this trip. I'm trying to get my current finances in order, But I hope to finally meet some others here.

I have two of the exact same bags and they kick ass! Pricey though.

I can get my tent (except poles natch) and my sleeping bag into the XL and it gets compressed down to about the size of the tent itself packed in the compression bag that came with it. I don't often do that though. I always bring the medium along with me, even if I don't use it immediately. I always end up picking up some event shirts 'n stuff and my reserve space goes to nil quickly. So I throw my dirty clothes into the medium bag and cinch it down good. Voila. Space galore!

Well, it's down to the last few days before this camping trip...time to get out the checklists and do the packing. It will be fun to see everybody there that is able to make it.

I, like you, ALWAYS have stuff happen just before a trip to try and take me out of it. It happens so much I pretty much count on that happening. If this is happening to you, ignore that stuff, do whatever you have to do, just GO. Seriously. The stuff will always be there when you get back.

These FJR events only happen so often...this camping thing may be a one off, who knows? So get off the deck chairs and jump into the pool and get wet! Ride the great roads around this area, see what godawfulsetups other people have and laugh! Just kidding. Meet some new friends, reunite with your old friends, hang out by the campfire and listen to the blowhards tell some lies and tall stories.

Yeah, they definitely aren't for the budget conscious, but for the space gain are great. i would like to have a whole set eventually.

Very much looking forward to the journey and meeting some new people! Since I (Dad) is leaving my daughter thought it would be fun to test out all the camping gear in the yard since she couldn't go. Had a blast and even with a Heavy rain all night we stayed dry and comfy! Having Wifi and an extension cord helped however!! Good thing I have the iPad loaded with movies and books and we are camping in an AT&T 3G network! Really looking forward to the trip!!!!

Accomplished all the servicing tasks that I planned this weekend. Fork oil changed..check, new set of PR2's mounted...check, change engine oil and filter...check, make note of expired inspection tag...check..I mean what? Yep. I actually didn't notice it until I had the fork off the bike and notice the "4" in the month. But not to worry. I get it inspected at a shop right next to where I work, so that will happen tomorrow.

Test loaded the gear yesterday and had the wife get on to see if it was going to bother her at all. It all works!
