I just bought a used 2005,, 420 miles on it. :D I rode it home and a couple of short rides, now it's time for the 600 mile service. I bought new filter and gear lube today, but I planned on using dinno oil till about 1500 miles or so....

I've read several posts on oil,,, (which are about the same on all the forums including the powerstroke diesel).. :)

But I'd like opinions, with reasons, as to switch to synthetic oil now or give it more break-in miles,, and how many break-in miles if I wait...

I got a carb sync today off ebay,,, hope to pick it up tomorrow and take care of the TBS too...

Thanks for all the great posts and info I've already gained

The overwhelming experience of most people is that it really doesn't matter. But playing it safe and getting the bike well out of break in (a couple thousands or more) won't hurt a thing and seems prudent.

I did the 600 miler with Yamaha dino and the 4K with M1 15W-50 synthetic.

I switched to synthetic at 1000 miles.

Used Rotella-T at first, but switched to Mobil 1 15w50 after 500 miles.

My bike likes the thicker stuff better. Experiences will vary. :)

Okay Guys, Thanks!! I was thinking that a few more miles to ensure complete break-in was the general theory,,

I'll do the dinno one more time..

Anyone volunteering to help with the TBS??? :D ,, I will pick up the carb sync today..

Thanks Again,

Ben
