You're in for a treat if you are going to tour NH. There are many many fine roads up there as you've already heard.

Don't be afraid to try Mt Washington auto road just north of Jackson on Rt 16. If the weather is clear, the view is fantastic. Leaving there, turn north on 16 for several sweet mile on Rt 16.

Other favorites: Franconia Notch- Sugar Hill area. Errol NH over to Rangely Maine.

If you can find the time I recommend you read through AGirls journey reports from last summer. She has a knack for finding nice roads and interesting places. https://www.seizethejourney.com/ec2007/default.asp

South western NH, Southern Vermont and Western MA also have some great cycle roads, less mountains.

If you're visiting near Bike week in June, I recommend you avoid Laconia, Lake Winnepasaukee area. Way to much traffic, too many cruisers and inexperienced riders. Can be entertaining to watch at times however.

I also suggest you search for some of Ionbeam's ride reports from last year. He has led some excellent tours through the Granite State in the last couple years. Good ideas there.

Good luck.

Couldn't have provided a better idea. But some of the pronunciations include bah hahba, biddahfid, Yauk Beach etc.

Aye-yah. But ya caan't get theah frum heah
Fur a flatlandah, ya talk purty good Mainiac!
I take that as a compliment.

I really like the salt water taffy at York Beach. Can you still watch it being made in the windows of a shop with antique taffy pulling machines during summer (Massachusetts tourist) season?

Gawd I miss Acadia. Have not been there in 10 years since my Dad died. It was his favorite spot on earth.

I'm going to have to correct that this summer.

I think I can hear the lobtsahs callin' my name from here...

You do eat lobstah don't you SPORT?

Goes up the center of the state, east of rt 7. It's North-South.

Laconia Bike Week takes place June 14-22. Not sure if it's your thing. It's like Bike Week at Daytona (usually 350,000+ people), but there's a lot more riding that can be done there than what you can do at Daytona. As part of the rally, Thursday, June 19 is motorcycles-only on Mt Washington.

I'll be doing Mt. Washington on June 21st, then circling around through Portland and running about 25 miles south of Laconia through Concord on the 22nd.

Do you think I need to re-route farther south? Or is avoiding Laconia proper good enough? How is the LEO activity during that period?

You should be OK cutting across Rt 4. Most of the "action" stays up at the track in Loudon and north of it toward Laconia on the big lake.

The LEOs will be out in force that weekend especially. But I'm sure they won't hassle you unless you're doing something stupid.

Mt. Washington Bike Day Traffic Jam - this was on the last bit of pavement before the parking lot. The road is paved all the way up to about the 5500ft level, goes to hard-packed dirt/gravel, then back to pavement for the last couple of hundred yards leading up to the parking lot, which is loose=packed gravel.

Here's the dirt/gravel piece. No worries about getting there on a bike. I almost dropped the bike twice in the parking lot.

It's all worth it to get one of these...

If you're gonna ride the area, not visiting the mountain is unforgivable. Weather is important though as the peak is IN or OVER the cloud level...

I will be detouring to Niagra Falls
