I'll probably catch hell as a noob, but here goes. All mechanical things have issues.

...my '05, and I am certain I will regret writing this, but not a lick of trouble.
Of course not -- you ride the superior Gen I... :)

Re, the poll: MamaYama (and NHTSA) appear to think the Gen II is scarier... :(

Super noob here. For me it came down to the dollar/fun ratio. To me a late Gen 1 is a better buy than an early Gen 2 considering the big price jump. Ticker or no. You can always find low mileage examples of both machines. I'd rather pull the head off at my leisure in December than be DOA on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. The 05 I bought had 8k miles and was $2000 cheaper than any Gen 2 in the classifieds. I've taken the month of September off to ride with the money I saved!

So to answer the poll you have to define "scary". Scary as in injury or death I'd say Gen 2 is scarier. Scary as in possible out of pocket $$$ then Gen 1 is. I think injury or death is potentially scary.

Well if you are talking about which is scarier to buy today I would say its a toss up. All the problems/issues are well documented here and the buyer could check for them on any bike he is looking at.

The wiring issues on the GenII seem to be the easiest to get fixed and the heat issue has been fixed also, so for me I read a lot here and bought a genII, the ignition fix was done, did the harness bypass I bought here. Hopefully no more issues.

FOR SALE: SUPER CHEAP!!

POS 2008 Gen II, 30,000 miles, one owner. Or will trade for superior Gen I. Please PM ASAP, before I run this thing off a cliff.

:close_tema: (No idea, but it sure looked cool)
