Spent the weekend down at the White Stag rally .....the 20th anniversary of this groovy gig.

What a nice January treat this rally is.

Anyway, some extra fun included three forum members: Dennis(LDRYDER), Eric(OCfjr) and Ken(FrogPirate)

making Reno USA a stay-over on the way down ..and the next day some NV themed fun.

Johnny Reno -

Please say Hi to Don & Anne Simone for me (and from Terry Packer from the Baja Trips!). Idaho "Island" Bob says Hi also!

Nice ride as ususal! Glad to see Eric V. got that rear tire off of a Mini Cooper to work, on his ride on his (new engine?) FJR ALL the way down to Beatty from Oregon City!

You guys are tough!

Me thinks there was ALOT more than went on there than just a few shotgun shells n some burgers n ladies of the evening...

Come on RJ, cough it up, come clean, and post the dirt buddy! No one will know it was you who let the secret outta da bag..

Oh, and that pic? :bad:

Already told them and they were appreciative. Don got home tonight after doing a loop through Vegas. He leaves early in the morning for a few days of snow mobile riding near Mammoth. (the guy is on some kind of moto-fun every day). I'm going to tell him that he and I are taking a ride down to see your artwork ...we'll do that hopefully sooner than later.

Yes, you are correct, much more went on, but my Samoan attorney has advised me not to post it.
Yes, I agree, that picture (picnic table) is very disturbing, and I'm sure you recognize the person ...yep, a forum member.

I'm not really sure why but I felt this sudden urge to CLICKY. ;)
Great report and pics... seems that this the time of year for Death Valley! B)
Very nice on the Clickky Tyler. Your clicks are always much appreciated.IMO Jan/Feb are ideal times for Death Valley. While I love it anytime, the weather and lack of people now make it sooooo very very groovy. Lots of fun places to venture out to in DV, especially if you're willing to venture off the pavement.

-if anyone needs any help, I've covered many of the peachy spots over the years. Many places I pass on ...but many that I can't get enough of.

Yuppers... been going every President's Day weekend for a few years now... this year will be no different. So far, in about 6 trips there, we've only been privvy to one year where we had every weather event possible... heavy fog, flash flood, snow, rockslides... we had 4 days of brilliant sunshine and 4 hours of wtf weather events... guess what we still talk about to this day? ;)

Reno Juan, I will get you for that !!

I was almost done with therapy, just another 30 days of meds, when I get to the end of your ride report, click on the stripper link, and there's... welll........ ah....

oh crap. never mind.

Thanks John... but I had to click on the stripper... oh my eyes... :dribble:

Another top notch ride report from our man Reno John. Good stuff, Maynard. !!

You are quite the "on the go" photographer. Some of those shots are fantastic. Hard to believe you took them one handed at speed. What's your secret?

Me thinks there was ALOT more than went on there....
Yeah, BIG holes in the story John. No dirt pics?

And who climbed to get this one? A young, agile assistant? ;)

And huge thanks for all the detailed advice, maps etc., you sent me on Death Valley.

Great stuff amigo.
+I've said all that I can in a public forum+I actually climbed up there, but wish I had the balls to go all the way up the canyon wall -instead of just a little ways up.

+You're very welcome -DV can be a magic place -depends on what you do and it depends on the individual. Some "get it" some don't.

Although it was the one place I REALLY wanted to visit during my vacation last year I only managed one day in in the valley, but its a magical place and one I will visit again, maybe at White Stag 2010 or 11 as I found the 115F in September a touch too warm for my taste. Maybe I'll get the chance meet up with DY, EV and Turbodave again.

orestes, interesting, and amazing how many foreigners visit DV -it seems at any given time there are more foreign tourists than locals. Much of the open west is like that.
Not everyone 'Gets It". Kathy, my better half for example. We go there together and I say "Look at this amazing landscape" ...and she replies: "What Landscape??". Funny how we're all different, and glad you appreciate it. I do DV about 3 times a year -but usually just short trip through, often I hit it on my way to somewhere else. Perfect and desirable form me because during the winter, if I can get to DV i've got it made as far as descent riding weather, hence a fair amount of time spent there over the years.

I like to venture out in the more obscure areas, and there are still many little pockets than remain un-violated. Ski-doo for example.

I hope to get back into Barker Ranch (the charles manson hideout) again soon -that place is weird, and I'm with those who can't figure out how ol' wack-job charley got that bus in there. If those canyon walls could talk, ...the stories they would tell.

Yep it gets warm there, no doubt. And when hotter than hell is when people swarm there. I've yet to figure that out. I've also been during snow and *heavy floods*. As Tyler said, those are things you remember and talk about!! The place is true magic.

Dennis(LDRYDER), Eric(OCfjr) and Ken(V Strom Guy) Gave me a call from Sacramento Sunday eve wanting to know of a place to get a tire for Dennis the next morning. I thought maybe Cycle Gear.

Not a lot of bike shops are open on Monday. I also gave them the option to come buy my place and we could put on a used tire that I took off just prior to our trip to NAFO last summer. The tire had more than enough tread to get home on.

They took me up on my offer and pointed their bikes north to Marysville.

The trio rolled in about 45 minutes later. By that time I had the No Mar all set up and all the tools laid out to pull the wheel and change the tire

After a couple of hours they were headed out on their way in search of a place to spend the night and a Mexican restaurant to fill their stomachs and wet their whistles.

Had it not been for the FJR assistance list these guys could have been stuck in Sacramento.

This is a good example of why more people should have their names put on the list. One never know when they will need help in an area that they are unfamiliar with

Steve's hospitality was great, as was Reno John's! As usual, the two wheel community really doesn't care what you ride. Even though I was there on my Girly Strom instead on my Manly Tuono, they accepted me almost as if I were a real rider. :glare:

A BIG thanks to RJ & Don Simone for showing us the REAL Nevada. I no longer have any fantasies about Nevada Bordello's.

Naughty Nadia. Aghhhh, my eyes!!!

+1 on you bein' Da Man Steve! Can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me out. Although by the time we got over to Yuba City, checked into the Palisade Motel and walked to El Zarape we missed closing time by about 5 minutes and had to settle for Chipotle Grill instead. But we were pleasantly surprised to learn they served real Margarita's. Needless to say we had our share, with me buying for my fellow riders who unselfishly pitched in to help get that tire changed.

And the tire gave the little life it had left, leaving its mark on the twisties of Hwy 20 past Clear Lake, Hwy 128 from Boonville to Albion, and Hwy 1 from Westport to Leggett. We all felt the need to pull over and catch our breath (even thought about having a smoke, and I don't smoke!) after the Hwy 1 section. I think the tire was happy to have one last outing. I put the bike on the center stand this morning, spun it around, and it had about an 8" section where the steel belts were just starting to show through. It will be replaced this weekend with a nice, new PR2.

The FJR Assistance List works! If you're not on it yet you should be. I can hardly wait to repay the favor for a fellow FJR rider. And Steve, I owe you buddy. Come visit the Pacific Northwet and I'll make it up to you.
