I will make it simple ... the BEST reason to purchase a FJR is becasue YOU HAVE NEVER RIDDEN A BMW 1300 GT!!!!

The best thing BMW did was copy the FJR platform (there brick engine was just that) oh an add much more money & very little dealers (sure thats a great reason)
Don't argue with Shane unless you know the history. (Hint: Click on his name and look at his topics.) He had a bad experience and his dealer did not solve it or go to bat with Yamaha for him. His bitterness is real and it shows but it's earned.

So far his experience with the GT has been a good one.

I bought my FJR because I wanted it. I saw the pictures in '02 and thought it was a very sexy motorcycle.

I had an XS1100 and a C-10 Connie and was looking to upgrade to a new sport touring bike. The FJRs were being imported to North America in '03 and could be purchased via the "PDP". I couldn't afford one then but I ordered my '04 in Feb. of '03 and it was delivered to me in Aug '04.

Sight unseen, no test sit, no test ride.....I just bought it because it was my object of lust.

I was forced over a cliff by an oncoming motorcycle and totalled the FJR. I replaced the '04 with an '05 ABS.

As i stated on my first reply on my bad experience with the 86 & 05 Concours (the 05 was the worst) but i don`t go to the Concours forums & say buy an FJR as you will like it much better. I`m sure my 05 was just a bad one (just like his bike was) I`m sure he has contributed alot to the forum (glad about that) If he thinks his bike is better than the FJR, fine & they have other forums for him to show it off. I have a friend that is a BMW nut (owns an 1100LT & 1150RT) & when i told him that i bought the FJR , his reaction was great bike ,not you should have bought a BMW.

(just my opinion) Sorry

And your point is? We've all had bad experiences in our lifetimes, one way or another, *most* of them dealer centric. Thus why the majority of us do our own wrenchin.

I'm sorry Shane had a bad experience, I really am. But Yamaha has stepped up in more ways than any other brand I've ever been experienced with. (Tickers, ECU's, Ignition switches, and other items). Hell BMW still does not acknowledge their FD failures despite the overwhelming evidence (far more so than our dozen or so switch failures that ended up getting a recall).

They aren't perfect, the shafted us a NAFO last year did they not?

His bad experience, as bad it it may have been, doesn't give Shane the right to be a cheese-**** troll on topics like this.

That's all he is at this point.

Thanks for all the responses. Very entertaining, and similar thoughts. I think it's clear that FEW other Bikes have such a loyal and satisfied following. Count me in as well. This 04 has the grin factor, reliability, and versatility that fits both my need and wallet. Have had very little trouble keeping up with Sport Bikes or Riding out of state. The most surprising comments, TO ME, are about another Yamaha. Specifically, the RoadStar. I had a 99 and an 06. I was neither pleased or impressed with the quality and/or design of that model. For me, it's hard to fathom that the same company designed the FJR and the RoadStar. I dam well bet it wasn't the same design team!
