Why do people make (and post) lame ass ride videos?

The vids of duke are great keep sending them. I really enjoyed riding with him to Page and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon a year plus ago. I keep thinking about getting a Gopro but my video's will probably turn out like my soccer video's from way back when. I found my self as the proud parent SUBJECTING my poor audience to what I thought was entertainment.

I would hope a few people enjoy my vids. I enjoy make'n em. Besides, it's in duke's contract I make him a star!
You tightly edit your video and offer a short and longer version. People that simply render the video and maybe dub a copyright violation audio track on a 15 minute YouTube upload are another story.

I agree with Fred. Post worthy shit. Edit it and cut to the better scenes that illustrate why the video was shot. A series of sharp S-turns, a high speed run, great scenery, a story-line, still-shots, captions ANYTHING but a 12+ minute video of uncut road rushing by. My time has more value than an uncut video of a boring road. The fun of a motorcycle ride doesn't translate to video without some extra work on the part of the person taking video.

I'm doomed.

I haven't looked at my gopro movies from Kali...but I'll try to post worthy crap...If I post it all after this warning.

But it was too long. I prefer this one.
Was that posted by who I think it was posted by??
Is there more than one?
More than one video or more than one person who could post a video like that or more than one 2Lmaker or... um, it's been a long day... :dribble:
Is there more than one "burleigh" posting FJR videos? Although why is his YouTube account "jbburleigh"? Maybe "James Burleigh" was taken??

It's gotta be the same guy though. I followed the link to his "Lane Sharing Compilation..." video. Who else is impatient enough to split the HOV lane?

edit:

I almost forgot... I found this:

Why are there so many videos of people just riding along and doing pretty much nothing interesting?
It's only going to get worse.

Too many people think their life is The Truman Show.

Now see, that was was edited too much. I wanted to see what he and the bike looked like after. . .

Damn amateur camera people, putting the camera down when cool stuff happens!

...not having the time or the cash to get out and travel to much...
:rolleyes:Because they can........(unfortunately)

A life vicarious (offered & accepted)?

I think, for many/some, just 'making it go' -- is motorcycling...? :(

So now that the bait has been cast out and taken, I suppose that I should expand somewhat on where I was going in the OP...

Why do people take lame assed pictures of their trips as well?
Exactly! Great question. I mean, yeah... go ahead and take lame assed pictures (I usually do) But why "share" them?

some of the guys on this forum take some pretty amazing pictures
Yes!! Yes, they do. That is what makes the less-than-great ones so blatantly obvious.

I'm pretty ashamed to post any photo ride reports because the pics that I manage to take usually pale in comparison to the likes of ionbeam, Old Michael, and a several others. My ride reports are puny and insignificant compared to Frenchy's trip to Alaska and half of the reports over on ADV. So for now, until I do have something epic to report, I'll probably abstain from boring the rest of you.

I think the video thing may just be folks just having some fun with the technology. I like a good ride video as much as then next guy. I know that I have seen quite a few on this forum that were entertaining and kept my attention all the way through. Usually from people that have been at it for a while and are good at the editing. But many, (especially the ones you find all over YouTube) just make me wonder why they "shared" it.

PS - Sorry to make you madder MadMike. :p

Just because of this thread, I cannot in good conscience post a Kali ride report...as my photos are so lame ass compared to puppychow's and others.

Besides, others might consider the act of posting a RR as some sort of self important Truman Show something or other...

Wheatie, you won't know what a lame ass is until I go over there and kick yours.

Post up, ya little s**t, and let US decide what's lame or not ! :D

ps - you're just yankin' our chains, right ?

Gotta admit it Fred, I wonder sometime if I should be posting some of the lesser quality pics I manage to take. But, as Puppychow nicely pointed out to me, others may just enjoy what I post whether I consider them inferior or not. There might just be one pic I've managed to capture at an angle (usually accidentally  ) that's worth a looksee.

Keep posting Fred, I'll read them :)

...He knows he has no intention of posting a lame report...
Good intentions mean nothing.

I guess to rebut the "don't post lame stuff" statement....

#1 - Many of us enjoy RRs and experience more of this world from other's adventures...whether one person thinks they are lame or not.

#2 - Some of us are just learning how to do RRs or videos...you learn by doing...sometimes you get it right, and sometimes you don't.

#3 - Everybody does a RR or video differently...what you may hate or think is poor...I may get enjoyment out of.

#4 - I get the most enjoyment on this site by meeting riders from all over and experiencing the world through their eyes or words.

It would be incredibly sad to me if someone saw this thread and were discouraged from doing a RR or posting a video on this site...because they were afraid of not "measuring up".

I am purposely not looking at other people's RRs right now...because I know I do not measure up to their work. However, I know that I have my own little story to tell...and am going to share it -dagnabbit- whether FredW or others give a crap. :p

PS - good fishing there Fred...if that was TRULY your intent. Maybe it was lame ass backpeddling mode, I don't know. Don't care...either way, look forward to sharing a mcy ride (or RR) with you someday. :)
