When I was in the market for the FJ-09 for my son in late 2015 I went to the local dealer 2 miles from my house. I gave them 2 print outs from 2 other local dealers showing them a price of $8900 for the 2015 model I wanted, the same one they had on the floor. I told them to match the price and I will pull out a stack from my pocket, hand it to them and be on my way. Nope, can't do it. Off to the other dealer I go. Fast forward to October 2016, they finally sell the 2015 FJ-09 I offered to buy for $7400. Looks like they made a boatload more profit hanging on to it and keeping it on their floor financing plan for another year hanging on for that last $399 they wanted out of me.

same dealer, same story, they were many K away from advertised pricing from a dealer north a bit, wouldn't come close. no worries, have cash, willing to travel, lol

Bought it from Mike Larson, and he matched the YES price also. Super easy transaction.

Our rule was to never let a deal walk away on a bike we could replace in inventory from open order. $50 was better than $0.

On the other hand, if the unit in question was of limited availability we held a little firmer. A lot depended upon the customer, a nice guy repeating buyer could certainly get a better deal than a confrontational ********.

Store still has to make enough money to pay the help, keep the lights on and have a little bit left over for the owners at the end of the month.

The guy's at D&H don't fund your High School Band Trip, Sponsor your Little League teams, etc, etc, etc.

Shop Locally if you can

Local was 17k plus expensive warranty, plus they added financing in the price (not sure why, paying cash) . After going in the room 3 times, they came down another 1k. The other dealer was advertised at 14.7k. I paid a few dollars more than that and went where others had recommended, so i could build a relationship with them, and the extended warranty. The local place asked what my hold up was, why i didn't want to close the deal with them, i said you guys are 1300$ more, and that was after giving them an opening opportunity to get in the ball park, Guess i bought local, about 60 miles or more away, small town, great dealer. No games, told them where i saw the price, asked what they could do, mentioned the extended warranty, he checked the price and said no problem, they matched it too.

Apparently you guys didn't deal with confrontational ******** like I had too. 2 dealerships wouldn't even look for the model year I wanted. The best part? After I got my new bike from the 3rd dealership I visited, I rode by each of the previous two to show it off and to prove that my money gets spent on what I want to buy and not what they want to sell me.

I think the issue for the dealer isn't that $50 is better than Zero. The issue is that,if the dealer gives it to you, soon you'll tell others, and they'll expect better too.

D&H plays this to advantage because he is happy to sell a large number of YES policies every year and he gets more money by this method than by selling a handful at full price.

But other dealers hate D&H and complain about them to Yamaha. Ask Jerald about it sometime.... if you've got an hour to have your ear bent.
